Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
Hi! This is my 1st post!I am going dress shopping next week and am sooooo nervous! I have never enjoyed shopping for any kind of dress. I am 5'0' - so nothing ever fits right to begin with...and I am hoping to lose some weight before my wedding next year. (It doesn't help that there is food everywhere this week!) I think I am so afraid that I am not going to have that magic moment where I find 'the' dress - but I am just going to be upset that I don't find anything I feel good in.
Has anyone gone through this before? Am I just being nervous for no reason?

I was nervous, too. Dont' assume anything you try is going to fit you perfectly because samples are typically small. Go and try on a bunch of different types of dresses. I ended up with something I never thought I'd want, and I love it. Good luck!!!!

I was but once the trying on started it was not that bad at all. I hate trying on any clothes let alone a dress but it went rather smooth.Good luck and try to have fun

Whatever dress you choose, they will make it fit you like a glove. Don't worry, it will fit you on your wedding day.

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
I was nervous as well that nothing would look right on me. The people at bridal salons are well experienced with dresses not fitting the brides (they usually never do) and can make them fit perfectly with some clips and whatnot. They also have risers to stand on so you can see the dress flared out around you. It's a little weird changing in a room with a stranger but, you get used to it rather quickly.
I ended up going to one store and buying a dress within 45 minutes (oddly enough the one that I liked the most from the magazines).

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
I felt exactly like you did. very nervous!! I even had nightmares about it.I ended up finding my dress on my very 1st outing!
here are some tips. keep an open mind. try everything on, because you just never know! bring someone with you who is HONEST! and lastly, breath. don't worry about it too much, you have a lot of time between now and your wedding. you will have plenty of time to lose weight if that's what you want to do.
Good luck

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
I was nervous, too. I'm 5'1' and curvy, so most of the samples fit oddly. The first store I went to was awful, but the rest were pretty good. I ended up getting my dress at RK Bridal, but I had an idea of the type of dress that looked good on me from going to a local (more expensive!) boutique.Just keep an open mind in terms of types of dresses. I didn't want a sleeveless dress, beading, or a poufy skirt. Guess what I ended up with - a beaded, proofy, sleeveless dress!
Good luck and have fun

I don't think I'm scared or nervous. I'm going dress shopping for the first time too next week and I'm more excited but at the same time I am dreading it a little because I feel pale and a little bloated.By the way, you're my date twin

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
Thanks! You are all making me feel a lot better about it!Everyone that I talk to thinks I should be so excited to try on dresses - It's nice to know I am not the only one that is nervous about the experience and dreading it.
Maybe I am making it all worse in my head and I will actually have a good time! I will let you all know how it goes next week!
Nov06 - It's nice to have a date twin!

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
It depends on the staff at the shop - the first shop I went to, the woman was so snotty, I didn't want anything to do with her. It made me nervous for my next experience, but the lady was so sweet, she made me feel at ease immediately!

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
I was soo nervous and it didnt help that my mom and dad were with me, but when you start trying dresses on and you see yourself in them its going to hit you like wow this is really happening and for me the nervousness went away and I had soo much fun with the lady I was working with.

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
i am deathly afraid of shopping for my dress. i will probably put it off as much as possible. i'm a short plus size female....and wedding gowns just aren't happy times for me! i know i'll have difficulty finding dresses to try on and that will depress me.so you are not alone in your fear of the dress.

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
i wasn't nervous, more excited to get the process started. don't worry about the weight issue you have plenty of time. i'm starting my diet on jan 2 which leaves me approximately 4 months before my dress arrives and i need to start fittings. good luck to you!

Did anyone buy their dress at their current weight....then when you lost weight you had problems with your dress?

Re: Dress Shopping- was anyone scared/nervous?
I was nervous only because I know how I am about shopping for any other dress and its stressful and gives me a head ache in the end...I had the opposite expereince looking for my wedding gown! I went to a few shops but I found 'the one' relatively quickly!
Just go in with an open mind and try and bring pics of dresses you would like to try on too
