Engagement Party-yes-no
Did anyone have a big engagement party? If so, where and how much does usually spend on an engagment party, if the wedding is gonna be big. Is three months b4 a wedding too late for one? how early should it be b4 the wedding?? no idea here on the protocol for EP's

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
Yes, we had one in the backyard at my parent's house. We kept it small - just immediate family and the bridal party. My dad did the catering since he is a chef and it cost about $800 because he did the cooking. It might be too late 3 months before the wedding but if you kept it small - maybe not.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
We had a very big engagement party at a private estate in the Hamptons, on the beach. We had it in September, 13 months before our wedding, less than 2 weeks after we got engaged. We had it catered by a local restaurant, hired a few waiters, a violinist, it was gorgeous, sunset on the beach, couldnt have asked for a better day. We spent approximately $6500 from food to favors, we are having a very big wedding. If you are having a short engagement, I think its ok to have the engagement party 3 months before the wedding, but you have to take into consideration people will be going to your e party, your shower, and your wedding
If you are getting married in October, why not doing something soon? Good Luck!

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
I think three months is cutting it kinda close. My shower was three months before. That is really asking alot of people, especially your bridal party, who have a shower, bachelor/ette parties, wedding expenses. Engagment parties should be from 6-12 months before the big day!!JMO!!

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
We had our engagement party at a restaurant that had a private room. It was really nice. Ours was last April, about a year before the wedding and about five months after we got engaged. I think that three months before the wedding is too close.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
We had our engagement party our favorite restaurant in NYC, where FI proposed to me.We rented out the whole place for 5 hours on a Saturday night.
We had it exactly a year before our wedding.
We were also moving to Los Angeles, so it was a combination engagement/farewell party.
It was expensive, but people were very generous with gifts.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
i think 3 months might be too close to have a formal eparty, especially when your guests will probably have to spend money for your shower gift and wedding gift too. if you really want one, i would recomend something small instead.my parents threw us an eparty at carltun on the sound, but it was 1 1/2 years before the actual wedding.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
We had a two year engagement, so we had our party in July 2004 at my paents home. We had a pretty big party - 120 guests, rented tents, chairs, tables, steel drum band, catered food, karaokee - and it was about $3500. We got some great gifts and a nice start to save for the wedding! I think a couple months before the wedding might be too much to ask of people (unless you somehow imply that you don't want gifts). Engagement, shower, and weddding all in a row might make people feel overextended. You know your crowd, so go with your gut feeling.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
i had an engagement party at my FHs house, bbq style. FMIL did most of the planning, me and FH did most of the cooking, but that is a whole other story. i think 3 months is a little too close to the wedding.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
We're having the engagement party almost a year to date before the wedding. We're trying to keep it low in cost. It's actually at a hall that a family member belongs to. We are doing the cooking and i started picking up things every week. I'm so excited I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
I think 3 mos. before is way too close to the wedding. Most that I have been invited to have been shortly after the couple got engaged, at least a year before the wedding.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
IMO, 3 months is too close. We had ours 10 months before the wedding. We had it at Rye Town Park, in a pavilion on the water. It was gorgeous. It's right near Playland. It only cost $400 to rent the pavilion and they set up the tables and chairs themselves. (You don't have to be a Westchester county resident to rent it. We live in Suffolk) We then got catering from Ann Clairs in the Bronx, and they delivered. That cost about $400 too. We had about 60 people. It was a perfect day!

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
We had an engagement party 3 1/2 months before the wedding. It was very informal and we just had my parents, FIL and his wife, and our friends. We had the party at FIL's house. We waited to have the party in the summer when it was warm b/c we wanted to make use of the bbq/pool/tennis court. It was a way for our parents to get to know each other and for our friends to meet before the wedding. If you have an engagement party close to the wedding, I'd have an informal one.

Re: Engagement Party-yes-no
we're having our e-party on Saturday
at a local K of C hall. I think it cost around $400 for the hall. My mom and my FH family are doing the cooking and we have a friend in the 'liquor industry' so we're getting a good deal on that too. i think we have around 100 people coming too- only because we have a lot of family and friends that live locally and want to celebrate our engagement. we got engaged in november so it's only 2 months after.
