Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
My wedding is starting at 8:30 also we tried to get it moved up because I was nervous, that it was too late, but after speaking to several people I'm starting to feel better, my church is at 4:00 and it's a full mass. I spoke to my photographer, and she was very excited with the time span she thought it was perfect. So don't worry about people thinking it's too late. Some will some won't and everyone has to have an opinion about something.

I think the timing is perfect since people do not have to feel rushed to get home from work and change. This way people are ready to unwind.

Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
I know places start that late because they need to stagger the weddings. But it is a good time in order to give guest time since it is a Friday. By wedding is a friday and it starts at 7:00. I want to try to move the time up at least another half an hour to give guests more time.

Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
my original thoughts on it was that dinner probalby wouldnt be served until 10pm, maybe later. For guests who have worked all day, waiting until CH at 830 may be hard, and staying until 1:30 am may be harderany friday nite wedding I have attended had the church at 330 or 4pm, and the CH at 7.

Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
my wedding is a friday...we're having the ceremony at 4 (because that's the only time the church does weddings) and the CH starts at 7.

Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
My Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, and a lot of people are off from work anyway....but for those that aren't, my church starts at 5, and the CH starts at 8. Reception goes til 1am.
I think it's good timing!

My cocktail hour starts at 7:30...which is fine with me...gives the guests time to get home from work and travel...I'll be happy as long as they make it to the reception.

Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
I think that's fine. It gives the bridal party a chance to take pics and the guests a chance to get home, change, maybe grab a snack.

We're doing 5:30 ceremony and then reception 7-12. I figure people can change before leaving work. I've never been to a wedding where the reception wasn't right after the ceremony.

Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
ours is at 8Ceremony at 4 and then CH at 8-we did it that way for 2 reasons
1 is that we want to take pics and go to CH
the other reason is that we did not people to have to rush home and run right back after they worked. I hate that about Friday weddings

Maybe she is taking into consideration her guests, its a work day so not everyone will take the day off to attend her wedding but the later time gives guests time to get there.

I agree- I have had friends who missed the cermoney etc b/c of traffic and other issues on a friday
friday night weddings are rough on guests- especially one who have to travel etc
the later the better IMO

Re: Friday nite wedding - how late should it start??
We're having a Friday night & our cocktail hour starts at 7:30pm... Our ceremony is at 3:30pm. I'm hoping people make it to the cocktail hour in time... Ours also is in summer so maybe people will just take the day off or if they work in school/go to school they will be off by then. But the timing I guess seems a little late but I'm sure she is concerned with people getting there. The guests will make do though... I've been to more Fri night weddings than Sat. I've even drove to Westchester for a fri night wedding from suffolk. I still made it on time. I've also been to Thursday night affairs and ate dinner at 10pm... no big deal... you're usually full by dinner anyway from all the other courses and CH.Welcome New Vendors
