NEW BRIDES/GROOMS - READ THIS
Courtesy of Marymoon plus some info I added
1. How do I get the title above my avatar picture to change?
You can change it when you reach 1000 posts. Until then it will display as Board Newbie, Board Enthusiast, Board Fanatic, etc, depending on your post count. You can change it by going to 'My account' You can also use this tab to change your profile info or pic or your avatar pic.
2. How do I get my LIW T - Shirt?
It will be sent after you reach 1000 posts. You will get an FM (forum mail) asking for the size and to be sure your address is correct in your profile.
3. I changed my avatar picture and I still see the old one, what happenned?
You need to refresh your browser. Hit the refresh arrows on your browser or hit the F5 Key
4. How do I resize a photo?
First of all, the easiest way to make most files smaller is to turn them into jpegs. This will compress the file size. How do you do this? Open the file in MS Photo Editor, click 'save as' and select jpeg. Then go to my computer and hold your mouse over 'whatever.jpeg' and a little box will pop up with the size of the file. If it's under 60Kb, you're good to go, if not you'll have to resize.
In MS Editor, go to image and go to resize it. it goes by percentage, so you'll have to do a litte math. if the picture is 300kb, you need to reduce it to under 20% to keep it under the 60kb limit.
Sound complicated? No problem, you can use the image resizer (located to the right of the 'forum mail' button) and the site will email you back your pics already resized. Voila!
You can also upload photos to a photo site (snapfish.com, shutterfly.com)
If the picture file that you have saved on your computer is under 60KB it is ok to attach at the bottom of this box where it says 'Attach pictures'.
All you need to do if the picture is under 60 KB is click on Browse (it will be under this box while typing a post - just under Add a Poll) and find the picture on your computer. The file name will show up in the box marked Browse that you were using. For more pictures - just repeat the process until all 4 boxes are filled.
If the pictures are too big to attach at the bottom of this post using the 'Attach Images' section (over 60 KB) you have options .
a) Use the re-sizer button as describe above
OR
b)Use your computer's photo software program to make the picture smaller then attach it like noted above.
OR
c) Upload your pictures to a community album on LIW and post the link to the album
OR
d) Upload them to a community album and the go to each picture, right click on Properties, copy the Address/URL, go to your post and click on 'Insert Web Image' (on the left hand side) and paste the address you copied. The address for the photo will appear in this box you are reading and when you hit post the photo will show up
OR
e) Upload your pictures to shutterfly.com or snapfish.com or winkflash.com and follow the copy and paste properties above (#d) to post photos into the thread.
OR
f) upload pics to snapfish.com or another photo site and share the album with yourself
- and once you get the e-mail with the SHARE link, post that link using the 'Insert Web Link' option to the left when typing in this box<------ under the emoticons
5. What does FMIL/FH/DH/STD/OOT mean?
Up on the upper right hand side of the screen there is a button that says 'chat lingo' (it's right below 'Store'). Click on this and it will explain!
6. This is a great thread! How do I save it and all of the other great threads I like with great info about centerpieces, hairstyles, etc?
Click on the 'add to notebook icon.' This is a tiny little icon all the way on the right, it looks like a plus sign and a little yellow piece of paper. Click on it and you'll get a message that says 'this thread has been added to your notebook.' How to view it later? Go to 'My Account' 'Notebook.' This will save you a lot of searching later.
7. Is there any way to zip right to the latest response in a thread?
On the main page that lists all of the current topics, all the way on the right you'll see 'latest activity' along with who posted it and when. To the right of that you'll see an orange arrow. Clicking on this will take you right to the newest post in the thread.
8. Where can I find info about a particular hall/florist/photographer/other vendor?
You can always make a new thread to get information, but the best was is usually to do a search using the 'Search' button at the top of the page. Type in vendor name and hit search! Another great tip is that you can choose to search only the Bride's Review board or just go on over to the Review board and browse through reviews. Many reviews are quite detailed and specific and even contain large amounts of proofs so you can see everything from the photograher's work to how the flowers looked and more!
Feel free to add, clarify or ask a question!
