Also, you may want to turn off the Caps Lock on your computer. It's considered 'yelling' on chat boards.Happy Planning, and Congratulations!

Re: HI LADIES
Congrats and welcome to LIW!I think you should first do a lot of research online about the vendors you're looking into. Read reviews, this might help you narrow your search down. (thats what I did, in terms of finalizing with a vendor)
Make appointments back to back for the weekend you're in NY. Although you're not in NY you'll still be able to plan it out.
Good Luck!

Re: HI LADIES
Welcome and congrats!A great resource is the Bride's Review Board...it has reviews of actual weddings from the bride's (or groom's) perspective. It helped me tremendously in planning and seeing pictures is always nice.
Also, check out www.receptionhalls.com and www.weddingsitesandservices.com once you set a budget (I found the budgeter at www.theknot.com to be really helpful) and decide on what you want (outdoor, ballroom, beachy, etc.) you should set up appointments to see halls. If you're planning on getting married in a church I would contact them now and check on availability and requirements. You're in great hands here!
Happy planning!

Re: HI LADIES
Congratulations! I planned my entire wedding in NY from Virginia so I completely hear where you are coming from. What I found helped the most was
1. Of course these boards. Almost every vendor I chose was because of the number of people who raved about the services provided. Since I wasn't from the area, I didn't really know otherwise. Use the 'Search' button on here to find out about any rants or raves about specific vendors.
2. My parents went and looked at the reception sites for me after I narrowed it down from the virtual tours most vendors provide. From there, they were nice enough to get pricing, packages, etc. and they also stumbled across my wedding location, which I had never heard about at all.
3. I would pick a weekend a month to go up and narrow the choices down. One weekend I looked at florists, photographers. Then another weekend I went up and booked DJ and limo. And before you know it, it's all done!
Whatever you need help with, please let me know. That's what we're all here for! Good luck!

Re: HI LADIES
Hello,I am in exactly the same shoes as you and don't have the luxury of being able to come to NY even once a month. I live in Chicago and have been to NY once since I started to plan my wedding and I just want to tell you IT CAN BE DONE!!
I went by a lot of recommendations and reviews from this website but the ultimate thing for me was trusting my guts when I spoke to a vendor that I received good vibes.
When you call vendors....most are very accomodating when you tell them you are planning from out of town. Ask for every last thing to be sent by e-mail when possible or snail mail. All have accomodated this request. For instance my reception hall agreed to hold my date w/o a deposit until I got a chance to see it in person. I was ready to book them when I called but she wanted me to be triple sure.
Also do searches on here for reviews and ask the ladies questions. They do give very detailed and honest answers. I picked my reception site, church and most vendors without actually seeing them in person and was not disappointed at all when I did go to see them in person.
TRUST YOUR GUTS AND IT WILL BE ALRIGHT!

Re: HI LADIES
Welcome! I'm planning my LI wedding from Maryland, so I know what you are going through. What I did was to make my trips extra efficient. For example, we always go to NY for Easter, so that weekend when we were there we looked at DJs. So when you are going to be in NY, plan to do something wedding related. Also, it's good to look at a few halls alone and when you narrow it down you can bring your mom. A lot of your researching can be done from the boards and then for the actual visiting you can jam pack your NY visits to get the most done. Good luck!

Re: HI LADIES
Welcome and good luck planning! You can definitely plan your wedding from out of town. The first thing I would do is find your reception hall, this can be done using internet resources, and most of all, this board. Narrow it down according to what you're looking for - number of people, location, do you want one wedding at a time, virtual tours on the internet. That way when it comes time to check them out, you don't have like a dozen to see.
ALL of my vendors came from suggestions on this board. It is the single most valuable resource for planning a wedding on LI.
