Problems with Cake at Leonards!

Im so frustrated!! The banquet manager at Leonards of Great Neck said the cake comes with the hall. So, couple weeks ago I gave them a pic of a cake I liked. He called me up and said that they want or (baker..yea right!) wants $2,000 for the cake I want.

So I went in to discuss it. I gave them another pic of a cake. And now the want $700!!!!

They're ridiculous!! I dont know what to do!!
This would be my 3rd cake pic I'm giving in. Should I get my own baker? Help Please

Oh and also when I told them that I might find my own baker they said that they wouldn't be responsible for anything that happens to my cake. (if anything goes wrong with it)

Cant wait what they'll say about my 3rd pic...To be continue..

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

Why don't you find out what cakes they are offering without extra cost first? If you don't like any of the options, then you should consider using your own baker.

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

Crap, you know that is what I am worried about too. I want thick layers stacked and square...for some reason I am not sure if they can do it. Can you share the pics of the cakes you gave them?

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

Also there may be a policy of not allowing any outside food as it can cause a liability problem for the hall. I am not sure if this applies, but I remember reading that on one of these boards awhile back. I am so sorry you are going through this! I think I will be going through it soon too! BTW who is BM?

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

oh man..Thats horrible!

Are you putting flowers on your cake? If so, maybe you're florist can just help you with this.

$2k or $700 is a lot of $$, i'd say go with what they're giving you.. and just try to include your wedding colors in it or ask them to make it similar to what you want. (without charging you).

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

I was a bride at Leonards and the cake (picture below) was an extra $300. I am not sure of their policy on bringing in other food but it is definately an option to ask about. I hope it all works out

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

Leonard's includes the cake, but there are only 2 choices.

Did they review this with you? Did you ask to see pictures? They have an album with the cakes that they show people.

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

I'm having the same problem at the Sandcastle. The cake is included, and we read many reviews that the cake is terrible, and besides that we hated the choices. When we brought up having our own baker do it, our BM said that we would have to get them to sign a waiver etc, cause god forbid anyone gets sick etc. We're doing it anyway. I don't care how many things I have to get signed. The cake is one of the last things our guests will eat, and we want it to be memorable, including the fact that the cake is on display the whole time. I would hate to have one of their tacky cakes. Good Luck!!!

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

Wow your cake was huge (james'pokey). The cake I want is very simple and in square. And Leonard's said we can have 5 tier. And they're charging me first $2,000 then $6-700. You were lucky they charged you only $300.

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

I would definitely check outside resources. Leonards may make a deal with you such as if you bring a cake in from the outside then they will throw in something else, ex: chocolate fountain. That is what FH andI agreed at our place.

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

The castle is a topper but the rest is a cake. However for my cake I'm taking away part of the moutain for them to put a cake shapped like a castle. the king kullans in medford made a cake for me at a pre wedding advent. It was delious and very affordable. They are very nice and are willing to give you what you want.

When I showed the baker my picture, hes like 'this is going to be expensive' I gulped and asked, how much, a thousand or more. He laughed and 'hell no, try like $200' They do regular wedding cakes for a fraction of what my cake was.

Oh and the horse and carriage is plastic too. sorry I forgot about that.
