Why don't you find out what cakes they are offering without extra cost first? If you don't like any of the options, then you should consider using your own baker.

I agree!

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

When did you first go speak to them regarding the cake? I am worried they won't have what I want.

Leonard's includes the cake, but there are only 2 choices.

Did they review this with you? Did you ask to see pictures? They have an album with the cakes that they show people.

yes I didnt like the 2 choices either... I had a picture of what I wanted, we found one similar in their book and they made it for me... Flower Michele decorated it for me... it was $3.50 per person in addition...
here is a picture of it, it looked great!!!

Not to say that it's right that they were changing the price on you.. But in alot of halls, the baker/chef can be snooty when it comes to their cakes. My sisters baker got mad cause she didnt do the cake cutting, she had to take fake pics with the cake to shut them up. They were so proud it they got mad that it didnt get 15 minutes of fame. She got married at JT.

You get what you pay for, so if its free, its just going to be a simple stack cake or teirs.
JMO:
I personally don't really care about the cake (plus i am getting the Vienese hr.)!! As longs as the flowers on it looks pretty, im ok & hopefully my DIY Cake topper will dress it up. But if this is important to you, I would just go buy a cake, you dont want to pay Leonards and get a disappointment.

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

One thing to remember if you bring your cake from the outside that Leonard's may charge you a cutting fee. Yes, believe it or not, that is something that many halls do. We are having our cake done from an outside baker and when we signed our contract we requested that the cake cutting fee be waived. I would definitely ask about this.

Also, if you do get your cake from an outside baker, see if they will throw something else in for you. Afterall, you are saving them from having to make a cake.

Good luck.

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

I think you should also discuss how they will serve the cake to your guests. I went to a wedding there in October and after the bride and groom cut the cake they opened the Viennese and we were never served any wedding cake. I thought that was weird so when I asked where the cake was, one of the waiters brought me into the viennese room and pointed to a small table with pieces of white cake on it. Just an FYI! If it is important that your guests get served the cake, definitely make sure that they know that! Also, the cake they put out looked like it was cut from a regular sheet cake in the back (no decorations only white icing) - so ask about that too if it is important to you.
Good luck!!!

Good point.. definately agree. I feel like everytime I go to weddings, there this big beautiful cake and then it goes to the back and either you never see it again, or the pieces look like its from another cake. I know that sometimes at weddings the couples buy another sheet cake to feed all there guest because the cake they orded wasnt big enough. Its a way to reduce cost.

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

I wouldn't worry about the cake not being served to your guests. Leonards gives you the option to have it served on the table or included in your viannese hour. I chose to have it in the viannese hour because there was so much other good stuff and most people don't eat the cake. Then it wasn't wasted!

Re: Problems with Cake at Leonards!

I also did not like what Leonards had I wanted a round cake with smooth frosting stacked on top of each other and sent a pic in and they said $300 and I was like what the hell all I am asking for is that the frosting is as smooth as possible and they ended up doing it no extra charge and the florist did the flowers and it was beautiful. I still have not been able to get my proofs or I would have posted a pic.
And for a wedding cake it was delicious, I got yellow cake with cannoli filling and they served it to everyone, I did not want it at the venetian hour
