Would you buy a wedding dress your mom hated??

Hi Everyone - Would you ever buy a wedding dress that your mom didn't like?? My mom and I have very different taste. She does like some of the dresses that I try on, but she hates the dresses with the pick-ups on the bottom and I happen to gravitate toward those dresses. I really like one that my mom hasn't seen yet, but it has pickups and I'm pretty sure she is not going to like it. What do you think?? I am so indecisive on dresses as it is and this doesn't help!! What do you think??

honestly, I value my Mom's opinion, and probably wouldn't buy a dress she hated. plus, she and my Dad are paying for it so that would make me feel guilty if I bought something they didn't like. that being said, it is YOUR wedding day and you should buy the dress that you love. do what feels right to you.

oh definately! Its MY wedding!! My sister wouldnt speak to me on the way home after I put down a deposit on it! She hated it that much. I just said, 'Its a good thing its not your wedding.'

I never regreted my decision! I LOVE it.

personally...i paid for my dress so it wouldn't matter to me if my mother didn't like it...thankfully she does like it...so far its been the only thing we haven't argued about

Honestly..no. My mom was probably more into the dress shopping then me. I actually picked out a dress, that I Loved...but she didn't care for it, wasn't one of her faves, so I didn't get it. She paid and like someone else said, I kinda felt a bit guilty. But I Loved the one I ended up getting and so did she, so it all worked out in the end!!

That's a tough one... I think that i'd have to be in the situation in order to really know what I would do.

Absolutely. I love my mom and value her opinion and it would probably make me a little sad if she hated my dress, but at the end of the day I've got to wear what suits my taste and makes me happy. And if you don't stick to your instinct and get what YOU love, you will regret it.

I paid for my dress. Mom didnt help me. She wasnt with me the day I found it. I put a deposit on it the second I tried it on. I LOVED it. I wasnt waiting for anyones approval but mine.

And thank you :) I hate to get it put away :( I want to wear it again! Im hoping to have a girl and have a christening gown made with it

I would buy a wedding dress regardless. You're the one who is wearing it!!! It's YOUR wedding.

Honestly NO! Its a sickness I have I need her opinion on everything! But I wouldn't get a gown JUST because she liked it and I didn't...there was one that she liked and I didn't and I wouldn;t get it!

I value my mom's opinion also. I don't think that she would stop me from buying a gown that I really loved, but I know for a fact that she would give me her honest opinion.

I've been shopping for a dress be myself. My sister seems to have something negative to say about everything I like. My maid of honor lives out of state so it's difficult to coordinate. My Mom lives in Florida, and she visited for a few days to help me look at dresses. Even though it's difficult to shop by yourself, it can be good because you won't be influenced by others negativity.

Ask for another opinion. If they hate it, then rethink it. Moms are a different generation.

And what is a pick up on the bottom? Is that what you called it? I'm not the best bride about fashion words.

I would get what i feel most comfortable in. I would value her opinion but the final decision is mine!!!

It depends what her reasons are for hating it. My mother hated the fact that I was putting a sash on the dress in a color other than white. I insisted on it, got the dress made, and when she saw it - she loved it as well.


However, had she really really hated it - I still would have gotten it b/c I'm the one wearing it and I'm the one paying for it!
