Re: Who's taking pictures before......
I think we may end up doing so. We will do something to allow a special moment for just FH and I to see each other for the first time without everybody around, and I think that will be really nice. That way we don't have to worry about it after the ceremony and can just relax and enjoy the cocktail hour and be with our guests and absorb the euphoria of just having been married. From what I've heard people say who did it before, it really allowed them to enjoy themselves, and took a little of the stress and pressure off of the ceremony, and just made the day easier and more enjoyable.

Re: Who's taking pictures before......
We are........I was totally against it in the beginning but it just make so much sense. We are getting married at the hall and the CH starts right after the ceremony. We really want to attend the CH especially FH. So if we want to get nice pictures and possibly go to a different location, we can only do it before the ceremony. Once I found out why traditionally the bride and groom did not see eachother...I wasn't too upset about it!

We're definitely taking pictures before the ceremony. After spending all that money I want to make sure that I get to enjoy the CH.

If you don't mind an 06er commenting - I saw my DH before the ceremony and I was still so emotional walking down the aisle. It all really affects you, but nothing can truly take away from that moment when your eyes meet his as you walk down the aisle toward. At least, that's how I felt!

Thanks for your insight.....
Due to time constraints we might have to do this.

there are probably multiple theories, but the one I am most familiar with is that it stems from arranged marriages. If you're paying a lot of money for a duke to marry your daughter so that she can become a duchess, you don't want him seeing her before he gets to the church, in case he decides she's hideous and he can't stand the thought of making babies with her for the rest of his life.
or something like that.

Re: Who's taking pictures before......
I'm in the same situation. After sooo much debating,I realized I only get married once and I wouldn't want to miss a single second of it to take pictures!
I also thought that you could think of a nice way for him to see you for the first time, even if it's not walking down the aisle. You could walk down a staircase toward him or have him stand with his back toward you and then countdown 'til her turns around... whatever you decide, it will be a special moment.
Then you could enjoy your CH, like you should!

It stems from arranged marriages and they didn't want the bride and groom to see eachother so that they wouldn't run away from the marriage.
Did that make sense??

Re: Who's taking pictures before......
i'm soo confused on what to do .. our wedding is at 11 , cocktail hour starts at 1 half hour away from the church and we both want to make it to that. I don't see where the time will come before the church though because of hair, makeup and getting ready. I want to try to move our ceremoney up maybe to like 10/10:30 in order to give us a little more breathing room... grrr any advice

I don't want to see each other before the wedding, but I can work that onto my schedule. We have decided to have a break in between our ceremony and reception, but i do understand why people do it before

We saw each other before the ceremony. We never would've gotten all of the pics we took if we only took them during cocktail hour. We had a private moment together when we first saw each other (that the photographer captured). I'm glad there weren't hundreds of people areound when we first saw each other. Seeing him before the ceremony also calmed me down. I'm glad we were able to enjoy the entire wedding day together.
Taking pics before took absolutely nothing away from walking down the aisle. We were still nervous and excited right before the ceremony. I became extremely emotional before and during the walk down the aisle. I'm so glad we decided to take pics before.
