I don't know what to tell you to help, but you and your cat are in our prayers.

Re: bad news

When I had a cat who needed pills I used to use cheddar cheese to mold around the pill.

I'd use my fingers and the cheese was cool but not cold, easy to mold. I sorta take small pieces of chesse and smooch it against the pill until the pill was just barely covered in cheese.

My cat always took it

Re: bad news

i have a very hard time giving my cat pills also. last time he needed them, i asked the vet for a liquid version which was much easier to give. the only downside is that depending on the size of the cat, they may need a good amount of it each dose. it's worth a shot though! good luck with your cat.

Re: bad news

My puppy taked this thing called Nutrical (it's like a meal supplement that comes in a tube like toothpaste.) When I had to give him pills I just put it on the tip of my finger with it and he licked it up.

Re: bad news

The drugs you are giving can be formulated into a liquid version. Look in your local phone book for pharmacies that say they do compounding. Call them up and see if they can make the meds in a concentration that is feasible, then call your vet to call the prescriptions into that pharmacy. The less stress giving the medication the better for your cat. Has your vet discussed low molecular weight heparin with you?

Re: bad news

thank you all for your advice...he seems to be taking them w/o problem now, fh just crams them down his throat...if you can consider that taking them with no problem...we are taking him to a specialist for a second opinion, he may not even make it to the wedding day

Re: bad news

My kitty also has to take some meds. The doc is prescribing it in liquid form. My kitty would also scoff at me trying to give him pills. They flavored the liquid chicken so he thinks it is yummy. I'll let you know how it goes. He has a heart murmur and hyperthyroidism. He lost 2 lbs!

I agree. My cat LOVES Drs. Foster and Smith hairball remedy in seafood flavor. You could crush it up and mix it in that. Let him lick it off your fingers. I hope your kitty is okay! I'm sending good thoughts his way.
