NWR: Playful cat needs home - UPDATE He will have a home!!!

After adopting the cat from another bride's sister, we have been informed that we can not keep him any longer because our landlord is only allowing us to have 1 pet, and we have 1 cat already. So unfortunately, the new cat has to find another home.

His name is Dylan, he's very playful and curious. He's about 3 1/2 years old and fixed.

If someone can give him a loving home, please let me know. I do not want to bring him to a shelter at all, but we can't keep him for too much longer. He needs to be the only cat in the house, as he did not always get along well with our cat Frisky.

UPDATE: Well it was really down to the wire. As some of you know we are about to get evicted from our current apartment because of the cats, and he was about to go to a shelter in Smithtown tomorrow. But luckily the girl I adopted him from found a home for him, and we will be bringing him there after work.

I feel so much better knowing he will have a good home and will not go crazy being trapped in a small cage in a shelter!! He goes nuts enough if we close one of the doors around here!! He wants to be in everywhere!!

However, we still have to move because of my cat...don't know what we're doing yet because we don't want to give her up.

He's so cute!!! I would take him, but my Shadow kitty has multiple personalities and does not appreciate attention being taken away from her.

I know and I feel terrible about this....I really didn't think the landlord was going to give us a problem with having another cat, but I guess I was wrong. And here it was I promised to take care of him for you and Michele....we will take care of him for as long as we can until we get yelled at by the landlord or until he finds a good home.

Re: NWR: Playful cat needs home

OK- I reached out to my friend- she had this to say:
Please give your friend this information for me...

If nobody is able to privately adopt the cat from her (which will likely be the case) she still has a few options. First, she should NOT have an aversion to shelters. Most of them, including town shelters, to not euthanize animals half as often as they say they do. It is simply used as a scare tactic to prevent people from dumping their animals at the front door. But there are several on the island that employ a 'no kill' policy. Here are a few:

Little Shelter in Huntington (631) 368-8870
Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton (631) 727-5731
any Bide-A-Wee location (there are several...Google it to find the nearest)

or....I do know a woman personally who does cat rescue. Her name is Carol Wendel and she lives in Port Jefferson. She takes a while to call back so leave a message and be patient. If she can help, SHE WILL. Her number is 928-9537.

Wish her luck for me.

Thanks!

I would use the shelter as an absolute last resort, I would much rather see him go to a good home first.

If I had to bring him to a shelter, it would be Bide-A-Wee, I used to work there and that's where we adopted Frisky from. I know for a fact that they do not euthanize any animals, and when we adopted Frisky, she was in the shelter for 2 years before that.

The reason I would like to see him go to a home first, is because even though the shelter will take care of him, I would have no idea what would happen after someone adopts him from there, God forbid they end up abusing him, I would have no way of knowing, and I could never forgive myself if that ever happened.
