Bridal Shower Gifts?

Do people who cannot make a bridal shower generally give a gift anyway?

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts?

some of the guests that couldnt make it to mine dropped off gifts at my parents house in advance.
my mother told me that a few of the other women who couldnt make it said when they get back from their vacations they will have gifts for me.

but there are always people who dont send gifts...

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts?

My a-hole of a FMIL told my bridal shower planner that I was being a pig asking for gifts from her family who already gave us engagement gifts (and could not make it to my shower.)

I was curious to see what other people did/will do for my fellow LIW brides. I'd be a little surprised if my own future family didn't give anything - especially since i want stuff off of our HM registry, which is obviously for both of us vs. lingerie or something for me - but i guess people do what they want to do.

The entire wedding experience has left me with a lot of surprises....

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts?

Of course they are supposed to - at least I always do. I go online and order something from the registry to be delivered.

I usually do this as well, and for the most part people that could not attend my engagement party (which was a few years ago) also sent us gifts, it was a nice gesture & was very thoughtful.

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts?

I usually give gifts if I'm invited to a shower. I actually usually give gifts if I'm invited to anything (other than maybe a b-day party) regardless of whether I can or can't go.

I guess I learned that from the girls I worked with because there were a few events where we all chipped in on gifts for others (before my friends were getting married).

I'm sure you aren't 'asking' as your FMIL has indicated, you're inviting and they can make their decision.

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts?

Some people will. They will either ship it to your parents or you or to the place/home the party is at.

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts?

I send a gift when I can't make it. I try to have someone who is going to the wedding bring it so the bride can open it at the party. Ex: I have two showers in NY that I cannot attend. One my sister is going to, so we went in on a gift together and she'll bring it with a card with both of our names. The other one is a few weeks after I'll be in NY, so I will drop my gifts at her parent's house and her mom will bring them to the shower.
