Guest List from FMIL

How many times and how long did you have to wait to get the guest list from your FMIL. I have been asking her for 2 1/2 months now. I always get the same reply ' we have a small family' No kidden lady, I know this, but I would like to order invitations and know approx. how many people I am having. We are paying for the wedding ourselves and we are trying to budget as much as possible. I have asked FH to ask her and she tells him she is working on it. I told him last night that if I dont have it this weekend, I am ordering the invitations and if we dont have enough for her family and friends, I will send them ones from the dollar store. I swear, does it have to be this hard to get a list.
Anyone else having this problem?????

Sorry had to let out the Tuesday AM vent.

Re: Guest List from FMIL

Sorry hun.. I laugh because I went through the same exact thing with my FMIL. I was asking her every week for like 3 months straight. The problem with her is that she is so disorganized and had NO ONES address... She had to get everything from her sister!!! Needless to say, I finally got fed up & told her that I gave all the addresses I had to my mom (I had a few from our engagement party invites) and whoever I had would get an invite.. Who ever I dont.. Sorry. That got her butt moving!

So, yes, I know how you feel. Keep asking her for it... Soon she will get so tired of you asking, she will have no choice but to get them for you!

Re: Guest List from FMIL

I got a list from her pretty quickly (notice I said A list). FH made her do one before I went to look at reception venues to get an idea of what size contstraints we'd have.

Somehow though, the list has grown substantially. The worst part though is she was shocked when I told her how big the guest list was (FH and FFIL started laying into her when she gave the look of shock at least so I was happy!)

Re: Guest List from FMIL

OMG! You girls are in the same boat as me...and I thought I was the only one....

First, I had to beg for the list. Then it kept growing. Then, as I was about to order invites - literally - they said to hold off because they wanted to review their list. Hold off????? You had months to review your list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have asked and asked and asked. Finally I got a reply saying that I would have everything by Saturday (meaning, last Saturday.) I'm giving them another week before the harassment begins. Invites need to go out by late may/early June and we need time for them to come in and go to calligrapher. They are so disorganized...I don't think they get it.

And, as it stands now, look at our ridiculous guest list; even FFIL thinks its stupid how many people FMIL has (but since they are paying half we can't say anything):

Me & FH: 50 people
Dad: 55 people
FMIL & FFIL: 150 people!!! They are digging people up.

GRRRRRRRRRRR.

Re: Guest List from FMIL

Let's see - I first started to ask in August. It is now gonna be March and still no list. I told them they have to cut their list down to 90 - and I think that the ILs think that if they just don't give me the list, I will change my mind (Ummm maybe if I hit the lotto ).

Re: Guest List from FMIL

I asked one year in advance when we sent out the STD's, when the invitations came around, she had to edit it, and it took her three weeks. I drew the last straw and called her up and told her if she didn't give me the final list, that I was going to go by the STD list and that's it. She got it to me the next night. You have to threaten them. I got every excuse in the book (I'm busy, I'm working, I don't have addresses) and I didn't accept a single excuse b/c I'm working, I'm planning the ENTIRE wedding, makeing the invitations, and I still managed to figure out a guestlist....it's not that hard!

Re: Guest List from FMIL

I'm not having a problem with FMIL - it's FH who can't get it together. He promised me a complete guest list by the Friday before Thanksgiving. Do I have it????????????? That would be a big fat NO!!

I finally got so fed up I called his sister for missing addresses, last names, and correct spelling.

He is still missing addresses for his friends. I remind him every other day. I'm going to tell him that I'm ordering invites on March 15, and if I don't have an address I'm not ordering an invite for that individual.

Re: Guest List from FMIL

Oh I hear ya, I had to get involved in my own shower that is supposed to be a surprise My mom has been asking her since Xmas for a list..it's March and she always has a different excuse! It's rude if you ask me, esp when someone has to ask you more than twice! I guess they when someone isnt involved in the planning they dont realize what goes into it with ordering inviations and all..so frustrating

Re: Guest List from FMIL

I had the same problem!!! I asked immediately upon our engagemtn (esepcially to look at places, to book a hall) I had to think about how many peopel attended my FSIL's wedding....

As for the invites....I asked and asked...

When she gave me no list I told her this is what i am ordering ..if I have to cut corners b/c not enough invites..it will be your list b/c you did not give it to me in a rtimely fashion.

Then I gave her a bogus due date as to when I needed the final numbers (I blamed it on the invite people) And do you know..she was still late!
