Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!
Ladies,Is it better to get the expensive Calphalon pots?? I really don't cook all that much, and am wondering if we need the $300 10 piece set, when the ChefMate set was $150.
Opinions please! I dont want something that's cr*ppy and going to break after a little use, but I'm also not a gourmet chef either.... decisions, decisions, decisions...
Also, what is the difference that we are paying the extra $ for??

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!
I registered for Calphalon. I'm not that big on cooking, but I'm going to cook more when I'm married. I think it's worth it to spend more on better pots because you can have them forever.

We registered for the Calpalon tri-ply stainless but did not receive it. So after our wedding we used the 20% discount from BB&B and bought them for ourselves. OMG, they are amazing to cook on. Everything tastes so much better. But you need to buy barkeeper's friend to clean them.

I have Calpalon pots and I really like them. You can always register for them and if you don't get them, you can buy the less expensive ones yourself. They are expensive, but they should last forever.

I registered for the KitchenEssentials Calphalon from Target. They are much less expensive and you can put them in the dishwasher
They also have a 10 year warranty. I cook often and right now have a cheap set that hasn't given me any problems so I didn't see the need to get a really $$ one. JMO though!!

my tri-ply said they can go into the dishwasher and they are about $400 for the 13 piece set, but I always rinse them by hand with the barkeeper's friend to make them clean.

I would definitely go for the better pots - it's the type of thing that you will have forever, so you may as well get good ones now!

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!
Both FH & I love to cook, so for us it was definitely worth it to register for the Calphalon. FH has had his eye on a pan from them that is only carried at William-Sonoma - so we had to register there, because he desperately wants his pan.
Although, he did promise to make chicken marsala once a month for me if someone purchases it!!

I registered for Calphalon. Fh's decision. Seriously that was the ONE thing he wanted to pick out. Can't wait to start using them.

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!
I personally am biased towards All-Clad but Calphalon is good, too. But just a suggestion for registering for pots, how about picking out a couple of pots you'll really use as opposed to a whole set. Many of the sets come with small pans and pots, and you may not get as much use out of them as you like. Instead, register for a couple of large pans and maybe one small one, too. Just a suggestion...

we didn't register for Calphalon. But I can tell you that good pots and pans are worth it! do not 'cheap out' on them. you'll end replacing them in no time.

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!
well... I have Farberware pots.. I cook a lot... they are fine... I do have some Calphalon pots too.... I like them as well.... I wash the farberware with cameo.... it makes them shiny......so... I don't know.... go with what you can afford... if you need to add later, then you can always do that...

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!
We didn't register for pots because FH aunt gave us Faberware pots and pans for Xmas that all have non stick coating and are dishwashable safe. They are working out great for us!

Re: Calphalon? Pots? Registry confusion!
another Farberware supporter here. I originally registered for a large All-Clad set. After talking to my mother and sister, they say having the nice stuff, is just that...nice.On the day to day, they grab their Farberware. It's lighter, more durable, and a lil more 'foolproof' when you can't watch your cooking chasing around kids, etc. So, I took the All-Clad off my registry, put up a 14 piece Farberware set, and for Christmas my FSIL bought it for me.
It's been great!! I love Farberware. Easy to clean, easy to use.
Just think if you are making complex, chef quality meals everyday, get a set of All-Clad. If you want something to help whip up a quick pot of sauce? get the Farberware.
OR, register for both!!
