Skin Problems!!!!
I feel like I will never have clear skin.... I've been to two different derms and been on every acne cream you can imagine. Is there anything that really works for you girls. Proactiv really dries out my skin and makes it irritated. I would also like to stay away from Accutane. How about a good facial that has helped.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Sorry sweetie. I have really bad acne but the only thing that has helped is Proactive. Maybe if you moisturize more often it wont be so drying??

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Aw, I'm so sorry that you haven't found something to help.Regular facials, like Glycolic Peels, can help greatly but can get expensive. You can go and get a peel and ask about an at-home regime that can help.
A friend who used ProActiv but dried her out as well, used the Continuously Clear Line from Serious Skin Care with great results. She purchased it off HSN and you can use it for 30 days and if you don't like it you can return it for a refund. I would definitely check it out and see if maybe this can help as well.
Good luck!

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
I was having breakouts and went to a derma who really cleared it up. I used cleansing pads, face wash, cream and I also take Dynacin. It really works well. If you are in NYC and would like her info, FM me.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Honey I know exactly how you feel! I WAS on Accutane, used Proactive (hate the stuff-it does dry you out and make your skin raw), topical creams, antibiotics etc...You wanna know what really helps?
The Birth control pill...give it at least 2 months, I used Ovcon, but you can use anything.
Not only did my skin clear up, but my pores became smaller, my skin was smoother.
I am so happy I know about this now because I plan to be on it before I get married to be sure there aren't any last minute break outs!
*just keep in mind that it will make your boobs bigger and you might retain water so you should probably get on it soon before your fittings.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
how about the sun...going to a tanning bed....that really clears up my skin, and i know it works for a lot of people.it's not good for you, but you could do it before the wedding to ensure that your skin looks good.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Have you tried just using the Proactiv Repairing Lotion only at night? That should help with the drying. Here are some other tidbits I've picked up through the years and luckily now my skin has been consistent (aside from the 'friend' pimple that appears once a mth)!1. Products w. glycolic. I recommend Mario Badescu products.
2. Do not sleep on your face.
3. Change your pillow cases often (especially if you have long hair).
4. Do not take HOT showers - it opens your pores and lets bacteria in. IF you do use hot water always end your rinse with cold water.
5. After the shower, let your skin dry naturally or use cotton balls to dab dry. Towels may be irritating.

Great advice, I used to use the Mario Badescu line. Maybe I should try some products out. I do take really hot showers...

glad it worked for you, but accutane made my skin worse in the long run!
I use proactiv and it has worked wonders for me. I combatted the dryness by ordering their moisturizing products...i have the daily moisturizer and the night cream...it helps A LOT...and also sometimes I will skip a night with the repairing lotion.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Have you tried just doing nothing at all to your skin? I'm serious. Sometimes, skin can just be taking a beating with all these different problems. Try letting your skin CALM DOWN for a week or so. Use Cetaphil cleanser & DON'T SCRUB!!! Just let your skin cells have a chance to regenerate fully. Sometimes we just keep taking more & more layers off of our faces thinking that will CLEAN it off, but really, what you want is for your skin to recouperate. Try Cetaphil, it's really really gentle & doesn't dry it out. I'm a Proactive user, but when my skin gets a little too dry, I alternate w/the Cetaphil. Good Luck sweetie! HTH

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
I don't find sun to be the answer, never was for me...Lots of water--I'm talking 2 liters a day if possible
Murad Pure Skin Vitamins help
Facials/Microdermabrasion (try Philosophy Microdelivery Peel)
Gentle cleansers....you may want to check out the Dermalogica line.
Good luck!!!!!! And yes, BCPs do help; I love Yasmin.

I am sure Accutane works wonders for people; when I was younger I considered it but never did it. My sister has a disability, so I was always very scared to do something like Accutane. I know they say it's safe and all that, but I was always frightened that down the line something would come out about it that was bad. I'm already considered a high-risk person since it's in my family, so I never did it......but that's just me. ;)
...and my skin is fine now so I'm happy I didn't cave in!

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
I have cystic acne, no topical lotions work because the cysts are so deep under my skin that they don't come to the surface. Vey painful. The only thing that works for me is the antibiotic minocycline. Taken daily, it really keeps those buggers in check. That, along with Proactiv, it just works wonders!!! I did that before the wedding, combined with some tanning, nothing but perfect skin on my wedding day!
I also had an appointment with my derm scheduled for a few days before the wedding, just in case I needed a shot!!! I cancelled the appointment.
Tanning seems to work very well to combat oilyness too, which is a HUGE problem for me....
