I feel like I will never have clear skin.... I've been to two different derms and been on every acne cream you can imagine. Is there anything that really works for you girls. Proactiv really dries out my skin and makes it irritated. I would also like to stay away from Accutane. How about a good facial that has helped.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
I'm in the same boat. I just switched primary care MD's and asked the new one for a referral to a new derm, since the old one didn't seem to be doing me any good. I gave him the loooooong list of acne creams I had tried. He gave me a simple antiobiotic cream. After three days I'm seeing a difference.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
I use The Body Shops Tea Tree products. But what I find helped the most is taking vitamins E and vitamin A. Accutane is simply vitamin A in the purest form. Try taking 8,000 IU's - 1 pill per day. Vitamins take a couple of weeks, so give it time.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
i use retin-a micro. my dr. said it would be like a chemical peel and he was right. i couple that with clinique oil free moisturizer (the retin a will dry out your skin on its own) and its been a good combo. i can't say my face is perfect, but it is 100,000 times better!

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
also - my derm gave me a list of foods that might cause breakouts - even though people say foods do not cause pimples they do for certain people. The foods were peanuts, cheese, taco bell, chocolate, caramel colored sodas, to name a few. I had to cut them out of my diet for a few weeks and gradually work one in at a time and see the effects. As soon as I ate some peanuts, my face brokeout the next day!! no more pb&j for me!

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
I went to the derm and I am use Clindamycin which is a moisturizing antibiotic that I use with Retin-A. The combo works gREAT! Never dry, red, or peely because the C offsets it. Iget the occassional zit but wow what a difference!!! HTH

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Retin-a micro (low dose .04%) .The R/M will dry you out the first few days but if you start every other day for a week & then move to every day it's not bad at all. Just use an oil free moisturizer (ex.cetaphil or neutrogena, i prefer cetaphil b/c of the uva/ub protection) Start at the lowest dose & you will see results ,if you fell it's necessary then move to a higher dose after a month or so. I feel I don't need to move to higher dose & been using it for more than 2 months. A great product to even skin & keep face clear.
-- I asked my PCP dr. to prescribe and he was fine with it, so try your PCP first before bothering to go to a derm, b/c they charge more $ to see them anyway....my copays $30 for a derm, such a waste of $.
I just starting Yasmin this week to regulate me, so hopeful that'll help also.
My sis. uses proactiv & tried it for a week but the benzoyl was too much for my skin to handle.

I have cystic acne, no topical lotions work because the cysts are so deep under my skin that they don't come to the surface. Vey painful.
The only thing that works for me is the antibiotic minocycline. Taken daily, it really keeps those buggers in check. That, along with Proactiv, it just works wonders!!! I did that before the wedding, combined with some tanning, nothing but perfect skin on my wedding day!
I also had an appointment with my derm scheduled for a few days before the wedding, just in case I needed a shot!!! I cancelled the appointment.
Tanning seems to work very well to combat oilyness too, which is a HUGE problem for me....
I use minocycline too. It made my skin perfect!

I tried it all and accutane is the only thing that works. I have not broken out since I was on it two years ago.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Hi...this is not the most recent post and I don't post all that much, but I have had skin problems and tried LOTS of different things.I have been using Benzaclin. It is a topical antibiotic so it just goes on the skins. I did not want to take oral antibiotics....I did that in the past for months.
Benzaclin is excellent. It really has changed my skin.
My sister took Accutane for a short period of time but was having bad side effects. She had frequent nose bleeds. Also, you have to be closely monitored if you take that. It was too scary for me.
Goodluck!

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
Really, the only skin care line and makeup that I can use is Laura Mercier. I heard that Laura Mercier herself had rosacia (sp?) and bad skin, so that's why she developed her line. Go try it out. You can alway buy it and return it if you don't like it. I highly recommend Michelle at the Bloomingdale's counter at Roosevelt Field. She's a SWEETHEART, and will be so honest about what you need! Good luck!

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
I have acne prone VERY sensitive skin. I have been using Differin gel Rx from my dermatologist on my Tzone for almost 10 years now. It works wonders.. I rarely get a zit and when I do its near my period or when Im VERY stressed.

Re: Skin Problems!!!!
after 10 years of acne i finally took accutane when i was 24 and it worked. my skin has been perfect ever since and my hair is even a nicer texture. i did not have side effects except for very dry skin.beware, sun exposure and tanning will cause wrinkles and perhaps even melanoma when we get older!
