Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I am going to be asking my Sister In-Law and my Niece (Flower Girl) to be in my Wedding this April.

Until the Wedding they will probably only be in NY this year once in Sept or Oct.

How does it work once I pick out dresses?

Do I just get the style # and designer and tell her to get it in FL or just get her measurements and hope it fits?

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I've been in a lot of out of state weddings. I've just gotten my measurements taken here and called them into the place.

Make sure that you have someone else take your measurements and that they measure your actual waist. I went to a seamstress to get measurements taken the last time and she measured the waist to be where my pants were resting and it was about 9 inches larger than my actual waist. Me not paying attention had to basically then go to a place around here and try to dress on to convince them that I would need a smaller size.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I did it both ways...
My sister who lives in WA ordered her dress herself there. I just sent the pic with the style and color.

My other two from CA and Germany sent me there measurements and I ordered it for them. The one from Cali is going to get fitted a week before the weddding. You can have it shipped to them or make arrangements with the store and seamstress and let them know she will need a fitting in a short time frame.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I had 2 girls from CA and I got their measurements and ordered the dresses for them so they would come from the same dye lot and my dresses were black, so if yours are a color this is the only way to be sure that they are going to match. I told the salon ahead of time that the girls were coming in the day before the wedding and they said they could come in and the alterations would be done in a few hours and they were. If your salon cant guarantee the alterations being done then just send the dresses to the girls

I am going with Black also, so I guess that is a good thing

Once I get it picked out, I guess I will ask the salon what they suggest.

Thank you Ladies

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

Having seen first hand how different dresses made from different dye lots can look, I would recommend ordering all the dresses together. Have your BMs send in their measurements. It should work out relatively okay.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I have a BM in London, one in Wisconsin and the rest in NY. Right now, my plan is to order them all off of netbride and ship the dresses to them.

I had my BMs each order the dress on their own - I gave them the designer, style and color.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I have a few girls out of state and Macy's Bridal gave me a form for them to fill out with all their info on it, if they're getting measured by someone other than a Macy's Bridal, and they just have to fax it over to them.

I'll get all the dresses and just send it to them when it comes in.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I am using David's Bridal since they are national and the girls can go there and order and get fitted. I have 5 girls and only 2 live here in NY my flower girls are also out of state. Davids seem like my best option.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

my sister found a shop that sold the designer and ordered her dress in FL, is buying it there and having it fitted. She's bringing it with her when the wedding weekend comes.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

If your SIL is the only member of your BP it doesn't matter where you order the dresses.

My MOH is in NY, but all my BM are OOT. I picked out a variety of dresses, had my MOH try them on, then asked the OOT girls to try on the ones that looked good on MOH and email me pictures of them in the dresses. Once I found a dress that looked good on everyone, that everyone agreed they liked, I ordered them here in NY. The color is unusual and there was NO way I was willing to take a chance on them coming from different dye lots.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

My FSIL and 17 year old neice were here for the holidays so we went to try on the sample so I can see it on them. FSIL pretty much fit the sample with alterations needed and her daughter is a size zero so we really could not get a too small size.

Anywho... FSIL's FIL in Florida was a tailor so he took their measurements which I now have with credit card info for deposit and will order their dresses here with the rest of them so they are in .the same dye lot . Then I will either ship them there or bring them down with us on our next visit so they can have them altered and they will bring them back when they come or send them back earlier so I can get them pressed. FIL's are here and make trips down there often

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

Have them go to any bridal boutique where they live to get measured. Take those numbers and order one size larger when you put the orders in, so that there is 'give' room for them before the wedding. My SIL's did this without any problem and boutiques are used to it.

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I have 7 girls total + my FG. I guess I will just ask the Salon once I pick out the dresses and see how they handle it.
I was certain it was not an odd situation, I just know my SIL is going to ask me and I am going to be like 'Um....????'

Thank you so much Ladies

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

yes, or you can have them get measured practically anywhere (bust, waist and hips) and you can order them all together with the others and have hers shipped to her....or ship it yourself. that's what i had to do....only one of my BMs live in NY

Re: Dress for out of state BM. How does this work?

I was wondering the same thing. One of my BM's is from Poland and I really hope she can get a visa to come here. But this actually helps for when she does.

ETA: on a related note how long before the wedding do BM dresses have to be ordered?
