Money is No Object
Pricing aside- who is the BEST DJ around? Even the most expensive DJ is cheaper than a band, no?

Your first question-tough to say, everyone is just going to name their own.
Second Question-not necessarily. A great DJ with all the works can be more than a band-but usually a DJ is cheaper than a band.

Re: Money is No Object
I got my band for well under $3,000... and they are awesome. Granted, I am a sat. afternoon wedding in February, but bands can be cheaper if your timing is right as well as the number of people in the band, etc. etc. I am very happy with my choice and we probably didnt' save that much in comparison to a DJ.

I'm a Sunday in March, but I've been getting quotes for bands between $5,200 and $8,000. Do you mind me asking which band you picked?

I love Tommy's Tunes, but they're not cheap. I wound up getting a package that included live music for ceremony and CH and it came in at just over $3k.

A DJ is not bad but I feel like people would be more impressed with a band.

What I mean to say is that people will find a band much more impressive than a mere DJ.

Really? Who cares what people think. IMO I'm not having a wedding to impress people. They are coming to help me celebrate my special day. FH and I have always envisioned a DJ because we like them better then bands. It's a personal preference and I don't think that anyone should look down on people who use DJs.

Re: Money is No Object
It's a matter of personal preference DJ vs band. You really have to think about what you like and what your guests will like. There are band crowds and DJ crowds, but ultimately you have to be happy. Are you working within a budget? DJs tend to be less expensive but when you add lights, plasma screens, dancers, giveaways..etc.. you can really get up there.
If you prefer a band, there are bands that will work with you on price. Mine did. Please let me know if you want info.
Good luck with your choice.

Re: Money is No Object
I thought my DJ was amazing and he came with a live singer which made him more unique than a band. Everyone was talking about how cool it was and I still hear comments from family on how classy my wedding was.He wasn't too expensive either, it was just under 2K.
His name was Tom Gordon and his website is www.djtomgordon.com
FM me for more info.

my 'mere' DJ is costing me well over 4K so it's annoying to think that some people will have the same outlook as you and think that my DJ is someone who works from out of his basement. it's all personal preference because if i wanted a band i could have had one - i chose not to.

Who cares what people thing. Both DJs and Bands are entertaining! They each offer a different 'feel' to a wedding and its a personal preference. My FI and I are going to get a DJ because it fits our taste and our crowd. Im sure there are amazing bands out there. We went to a wedding in NJ and the band was pretty good. They sang great songs but you know what its not the same as the original song that you love. So we decided against a band after attending several weddings however they are still a lot of fun.

As others have said it is a matter of opinion. I have been to weddings with some great bands, but I've also been to weddings where I was just wishing that they had gotten a 'mere' DJ. Both are impressive (if that is your concern) if they are capable.

I paid around $2500 for Tommy Tunes and I am having Ceremony, CH and Reception.I heard nothing but great things about them and booked them on the spot.
Not to beat a dead horse, but it is 100% a personal choice between a DJ and Band. It is whatever fits your personality. PERIOD!
