For those who have out of town BM's

I have three ladies who are from NJ. How do I go about getting this off the dime? I called the place where I ordered my gown and they said what I should do is find out their measurements and then once I decided on the BM dresses have the girls order them from the place. How will they get fitted for their first fitting if they can't make it to NY at the time of the fitting? My MOH was saying maybe they could pick up the dress once they come in and then she would take it home with her to Jersey and have some one do the alterations where she lives... I don't think it will be that easy.. what do you think?

where in jersey are they? I have 3 i jersey and they all had no problem making it in-I also picked a place half way from them ....

Can't you order the dresses and have them sent to the girls in NJ? I think they won't charge sales tax if they are sent to a NJ address. Then they can take the dresses directly to a place and have them altered. Unless, that is, you want them all altered at the same location?

All of my BM live out of town. I asked for one weekend during the summer for them to travel to me to pick out dresses and try stuff on. We planned this about 6 months in advance. Anyways, they came in and as I see them on holiday's, I gave them their dress and they are going to have them altered where they live and bring them with them for the wedding. I'll have an iron in my apt the day of the wedding if any wrinkles show up.

This is what i'm doing as well. Getting the girls measurements, ordering the dresses and sending them to them when they come in. Each girl will get them altered at a place convenient for them. I've been in several bridal parties as well where I had to do this. HTH!

I've been in weddings where this was done and I'm doing it for my own wedding as well. Once we decide on the dress, we're going to order it from one location so the dresses come from the same dye lot. When they come in, I'm going to send the two that need to be send out of state and they are going to have the alterations done by a seamstress in their state. The weekend of my wedding, I'm going to have all of the dresses steamed here in NY once everyone is here.

Me too.

Most of the weddings I've been in are OOT and this is how it worked (except for one where they made the dress and I got fitted when I was in town for the shower/bachelorette party).

They can get measured at any bridal store/tailor and call the bridal store here with their measurements. When their dresses come in, you can pick them up and send them to them (or the bridal store might be able to do that).

I have 3 BM's who live upstate and one in Colorado. We decided to go with dresse from David's b/c they are all over the place. The girls are picking their own style but all in the same color.

my girls are all over. they got measured at a local store and sent me a check and their measurements. i ordered them and will check them at the shop. then the shop owner will mail them to my out of town girls and they will get alterations done near their home. my girls on LI will get theirs done at the shop or wherever they want

I have one girl in CT, one in Virginia, and one in Delaware. I had them get measured by a local seamstress and then call in their measurements with a deposit. When the dresses arrive in NY, I'll make sure they are paid for and then ship them to the girls in their respective states. Then, they are going to get the alterations done somewhere near them.

One of my BM lives in California. She called in her measurements to the place we ar ordering the dresses from, then when the dresses come in, the dress will be shipped to California. She will get it altered out there, then ship it back to me before the wedding or she'll bring it on the plane with her.

Three of my BM's are local and two are OOT. I shopped wth the local ones (narrowed it down in the internet and then checked some salones. And along with the input from OOT's, we narrowed it dow to a few dresses. Sent pix over email ad everyone agreeed to a dress. We called Phillis from gownfind.com who will ship dresses to idividual girls who will take the to their own tailor.

Told them get whatever silver shoes they wanted. They also preferered to wear their own jewelry.
