how far in advance are you getting your gown?

I know this has been asked before... but it seems like a lot of ladies have gone dress shopping lately, or are going dress shopping, so I'm asking again...

How far in advance are you getting your gown?

I'm going to go dress shopping next week, but I still have a year and a half to go... I'm trying to decide if I find something I absolutely love, if I should just order it on the spot, or if should wait and keep looking just in case, since I have so much time. I don't want to be a two dress bride!

I am getting married next july, and I am going shopping for the first time tomorrow!!

I dont care how much I love a dress - I am waiting until this july to order it. I am picky, so I think it will take until then to find one. Plus, this will be the only time I get to try on wedding dresses so Im going to try on every single one!

I just picked mine out 2 weeks ago. Made 3 appt's at places and thought I was going to have to try on 50 to find the one and I only put on 4 in total and found it at the first place I went.

see, that's another question I'm asking myself... do I wait and see if I lose some weight, or do I just order now and assume that I'll be about the same size, maybe a little smaller but not so small it can't be altered?

I'm not really on a weightloss plan, but for my health (high cholesterol and family history of heart problems) I really need to get my @ss in gear and get myself into shape... but on the other hand I've been saying for ages that I need to do that, and haven't gotten anywhere!

I also tend to stress-eat, so I'll probably gain weight right before the wedding...

so many decisions to make!

I picked out my dress few weeks ago and I ordered it this past week, but that's only because I have just about a year to go.

Unless you have a particular design/style you want to go with, I say don't rush. Take your time.

my wedding is June 22, 2007. i have not gone dress shopping either...I want to but i am so busy with work and grad school...But i hope to get an appt sometime this month...I definitely have a deadline by my one year mark ...but i am sure i will find something...there are a million dresses out there....

I would start looking at the kinds of dresses that strike you the most....but im sure its different when you put them on at the salon.....I think you have a enough time but hey why not try on some dresses to get a head start....plus if there is a dress that you really like and its very expensive...you'll know to start working overtime or save to get the dress that you want!!!..let me know when you start shopping....!!!

I asked the same question when I started on here and I got so many different points of view! I'm a year and a half away and I am in the same predicament! I've decided to wait until this summer to really allow myself to try and lose some weight but also to reduce the chance that I would find two dresses. I'm the same way being afraid of finding two that I really love! I say if you want to have fun now....go for it but don't pressure yourself to buy if you're afraid. Or do what I do and just rip out pictures of dresses you like in magazines to really get an idea of what you and want and enjoy that way for a bit. Hope this helps somehow! I am going sometime in May.. and that's about a year in advance.. Hopefully within the next 4-5 weeks, I will lose the last 6lbs I am looking to take off
