FMIL is driving me crazy

What do you girls think of this?? My FH and I are paying for our own wedding, and we're trying very hard to keep the list as close to 125 as possible...and my FMIL is insisting we invite about 20 extra people that are in her family that she just got back into contact with. Here's where it gets weird, she told us that she understands we are paying for the wedding ourselves so she would be willing to pay for the extra people herself. Ok, sounds fair enough right?!?!? Well, then a couple of days later, she ends up saying that she will be paying for the extra people out of the wedding gift she was going to give us. My poor FH didn't even know what to say, how do you answer that???? How tacky can you possibly be?????
Sorry to vent, but we're almost 11 months away from the wedding and she's driving me nuts...

and i cant believe she actually said that to you guys. i would just tell her to beat it the list stays at the number you guys want and can afford

yea i have to agree tacky....sorry. my FMIL offered the same. My parents are paying for the wedding and FMIL wants to invite like 15 cousins that she never talks to and FH has NEVER met. I think it is stupid to invite people we dont know. Anyway, they offered to pay for the extras but i dont know if we will ever see that money. In addition they are not paying for anything which is fine but my parents are kind of annoyed that have not offered to help with anything and then are adding all these people that nobody speaks to.

WOW..that is not ool at all.. even if that was her plan why announce it?? I dont get it sometimes.. the nerve of people. She could have just given a smaller gift without ever announcing that the only reason ur gift is smaller is uz she needed 20 exrta people thete.. Im sorry but I just got mad for you..

That's what I said!! We wouldn't even have known if she did in fact give us a smaller gift?!? The fact that she went out of her way to tell us that we're getting less now, she drives me up a wall!!
Neither one of us know any of the extra people, and maybe this sounds unreasonable, but I was really hoping to know everyone at my wedding!!!!!!!
