I'm sorry NWR: but weird Follow up to 'Breaking my lease.....'

I just spoke to my landlord about breaking my lease and he was SO nice and was like...just write me a letter with the date you'd like to move out on and I'll try to re-rent it! I offered to help him do the leg work and he's like no, it's not a problem....

Does anyone else think this is weird???

Could it be that easy!

I don't think it's weird. He's just being nice. People break their leases all the time. Maybe he feels that while you were a tenant you were good to him just as he was a good landlord to you. Glad it work out so well for you!

I am just wondering if he cannot rent it for a few months, is he going to hold you responsible for the rent. When we broke our lease, we had a choice, we could 'take our chances' and if someone leased the apartment, we would be off the hook, but if no one leased the apartment we would have to pay the rent through the end of the lease. We opted to pay the fee to break the lease.

It's in such a great area that I don't think it would be a problem renting it..;

It's right by the train station...right by Winthrop & surrounded by young lawyers. So I think it's probably easy to rent PLUS it's rent controlled so I'm sure he'd love that extra 18%. But I do worry about that...I'll probably do a little leg work myself to see if I could find a renter, just to be safe.

This is what the deal was in the leases that I have had. You can break it but, you're responsible until it can be re-rented.
