Anyone Been Criticized For Planning Too Much For The BIG DAY?
Hi, just wondering if anyone's been told that they are putting WAY to much effort into wedding planning? That's it's just a wedding?...I'm doing things like making my own invites, customizing my wedding rings, taking dance lessons (for our first dance) and making my own centerpieces and bo-k's and I've been told that's it's just over the top? :P

people who don't 'get it' say those things.i get that from my dad a lot. if i had a nickel for everytime he said to me, 'you're mother and i got married for $25 at town hall, and we've been married for 26 years' i probably could've paid for my wedding alread. (of course he fails to mention they had just bought a house, and already had 2 kids at that point...so they figured, what the heck?)

Re: Anyone Been Criticized For Planning Too Much For The BIG DAY?
I think it is great you are doing the invites and stuff yourself. I am doing a lot of things myself and people have told me that I am doing too much that it is just one day....and the other day I realized that most of the people that have told me that are either in an unhappy relationship, not in a realationship, and if they are married didn't have a wedding.I think if you enjoy the planning then great. Doing things yourself is not over the top.
Don't worry about what people say....no matter what you do they are ALWAYS going to have something to say.

The only thing I got criticized for was wanting to go dress shopping too early. My mom and aunts said I shouldn't go until at least September...it makes sense though cuz I change my mind like every 5 minutes, plus new styles come in during August.

Yes. When I was planning mine, someone actually came up to me and said. 'when I get married I will not be all into this planning thing. It is just like a prom, you get a dress, find some flowers & a limo...what's the big deal?' I wanted to slap her.

People who haven't planned a wedding before are so clueless! They think everything is gonna be magically done for them? The bridesmaids will wear the right dress, the cake made, music played, etc. w/o an input on their part?
if it was so easy, there won't be an industry built around wedding planning!

The comment I get the most is 'it's just one day'. And you know what - whoever says that is correct - it is just one day. However, it is the most expensive day of my life, and if I want to host a wiener roast or an elegantly catered affair that is MY business.

HAHA....yup. DH used to say 'what are you going to do on July 10th?' I'd give him a look and say, 'enjoy my flight to the bahamas'he was the only one....others thought i didn't spend enough time on it!
i enjoyed planning it...and organizing it....it gave me a hobby.

AMEN! i find alot of people who criticize are the ones who hosted forgettable weddings. If you're gonna expect people to shell out $100 plus cover charge for your wedding, make it a memorable affair! Not another run of the mill wedding where you eat, greet and go. :P

Absolutely. It was so worth it!And in the end everyone said I was so organized, everything was so seamless and that no one felt like anything went wrong. Nothing did go wrong because I was organized and put someone other than me in charge of everything the day of.

Re: Anyone Been Criticized For Planning Too Much For The BIG DAY?
that is sooo GREAT that you are doing all those 'special' things for your wedding...You & if you have children down the line they will appreciate it I am sure ~ I know once I start getting into the DIY things some people will think I am crazzzzy ~ I am already getting comments about doing and booking vendors in advance... some who have planned there wedding in like 6 months have made side comments with a chuckle ~ But I would rather get the big things out of the way and I concentrate on all the little things along the way (over the winter)...

Re: Anyone Been Criticized For Planning Too Much For The BIG DAY?
I sort of got that too. I was paying too much attention and money to things that didn't matter. At what other time in my life would I be doing this??? It's the most important day! Oh well, I continue to ignore.....it's bliss.................
