Mailing Invitations....

Quick question that might seem dumb ... but...

Can I just put my invitations in a regular mailbox? Or do I need to go to the Post Office?

Thanks!

Re: Mailing Invitations....

You can put them in a regular mailbox. However, if they have anything on them (bows, ribbon etc) I don't recommend it. The invites will then go through a machine to be sorted at the post office and can suffer serious damage if they get stuck because of the thickness.

You're better off going to the post office whatever style invite you have, asking for them to be hand cancelled and making sure they look just as nice on the outside as they do on the inside.

Re: Mailing Invitations....

Is it a big deal to have them hand cancelled? I'm in Manhattan and I don't want people cursing at me!

don't worry...they are used to it. besides...most of the time it's not like you stand there and watch them. many times they just take your invites and put them in a bin and hand cancel them later on when there's no line or something.

I didnt have them hand canceled. I've heard that even if you have them hand canceled they go through another machine anyway.

Re: Mailing Invitations....

If your not going to have them hand canceled, you should still bring them directly to the post office to be mailed. You never know what's in those mail boxes...

To the best of my knowledge, not one of my invites went through the machine. I asked at the post office as well, and the guy assured me that hand cancelling kept them out of the machine. There is a raised pearl on my invites that would have been crushed if they had gone through the machine.

Re: Mailing Invitations....

I WOULD HAND CANCEL THEM .... OR IF NOT DO THAT BRING THEM IN TO THE POST OFFICE YOURSELF.... DON'T DROP THEM IN THE MAIL BOX ... I WOULD BE AFRAID THAT THEY WILL GET DIRTY OR RUINED SOMEHOW....

YOU TOOK SO MUCH TIME PUTTING THEM TOGETHER... I WOULD HATE TO SEE THEM GET DIRTY OR RUINED...... JUST A THOUGHT...

Re: Mailing Invitations....

Thanks for everyone's advice.

I brought them to the huge post office on 3rd Avenue & 54th Street and the postal clerk was great. I put each invitation in front of him and he stamped them - we had our own assembly line going.

As a side note - I dropped them off yesterday at noon and some have already been received!

Re: Mailing Invitations....

You can put them in a mailbox, but they will run them throught the machine. IF you bring them to the post office tell them to hand cancel them, this way they won't get bent or anything in the machine.
