Re: engagement party- register?
You might want to register for a few things. Some people like to purchase a gift for your engagement, and if you are not registered they may purchase items for you that you might not necessarily want.

Re: engagement party- register?
Do it~Register for some stuff now and go back and add on later. As much as people will give you guys $$$ they will also want to get gifts. I got tons of frames, crystal etc. That way if you do get gifts you will get something you really like .

Re: engagement party- register?
We registered before our e-party and I am glad we did. We got stuff we really needed, whereas we probably would've gotten things we didn't had we not registered.

Re: engagement party- register?
I was wondering the same thing. My mom wants to have an e-party this fall but I won't be getting married until 2008. Do I really need to register?

Re: engagement party- register?
We registered. We got a lot of nice gifts and keepsakes. Some people prefer giving gifts over money.

Re: engagement party- register?
we didn't register until Jan 2006 cause we were afraid that some of the items that we registered for would be discontinued... We ended up getting a lot of money that we really needed,... Our mom's told them that we weren't registering until after the new year and if they want to give us a gift give gift certificate or money.. cause we really needed money...

Re: engagement party- register?
When I had my e-party I did not register. We ended up getting cash and a few giftcards. But, registering lets you receive gifts you want and then for your shower, you can add on additional items like extra towels, bedsheets, etc. That way your home will be fully stocked!!!!!

Re: engagement party- register?
I think you should register...at least you'll get things that you asked for instead of getting something you don't want at all. A good place to start off is Bed Bath and Beyond.

This is what I thought which is why we did not register for our eparty.

Re: engagement party- register?
i would definitely register. this way, if people ask, you can tell them. otherwise you'll just get a whole bunch of stuff you don't want.

Re: engagement party- register?
I didn't have an e-party but if I did, my Dad did not want me to register because he wanted me to get cash!!!!
I think it's a preference but if you register for everything now, you may get a lot of stuff at your bridal shower that you dont' want b/c there may not be a lot left on the registery.
I think most people give $$$ for engagement parties and gifts for showers - that's just my experience/opinion

Re: engagement party- register?
People who will give cash will do so no matter what, and people who will give gifts, will do so no matter what. Save yourself some grief and register for kitchen items, or other items that wont be discontinued. Me and FI registered for everthing except bed and bath stuffs, and we got a lot of stuff off the registry, we also got money as well. Only a few people did not buy off the registry and needless to say we will be returning that stuff.

Re: engagement party- register?
YES!!!!! REGISTER!!!!Or else you might end up with endless amounts of RANDOM crap!!! That's what happened to me. Well, sorta: I registered for everything under the sun but I listened to a few random people who told me that 'it's not proper etiquette' to put the registry cards in with the e-party invites (which I know it is not but after getting all that stuff i hated- i would love to go back and do it anyway, regardless of what people might have said). So I didn't put the cards in and just hoped that people would ask my mom or FMIL-- but a lot didn't and instead of just giving money, I got random crap!
LOL it was pretty bad-- most with no receipts, no box of where it came from, NO idea where to return it to. A lot of them I still have and I don't know what to do with them (garage sale!!!). So if I were you I would register... if you don't need that much stuff then register at a great place like Bed, Bath and Beyond that gives you back CASH
when you return something!!! CA--CHING!!!!!!!
That's my best advice
HTH!!!!

Re: engagement party- register?
We registered and we got a ton of stuff and a great deal of money as well. People like my great aunts wanted to get us something and I prefered it to be something we needed.
