NWR: New England in the Fall

Just wondering if anyone knew of good places to go for a long weekend in the Fall in New England. We were thinking of the Cape or Martha's Vineyard but haven't been to either in the fall. We want to do a long weekend after our wedding since we aren't going on our honeymoon for a few months.

Any ideas would be really helpful! Thanks!

Re: NWR: New England in the Fall

We go to New Hampshire a few times a year, but the fall is the prettiest. Stay in the White Mountains, tons to do and see or you can relax and see the foliage...

Re: NWR: New England in the Fall

You don't want to do the Cape or Martha's Vineyard in the fall....

I had an Oct 8th wedding anniversary (with my 1st husband), ...and went there one year for our anniversary..

everything was closed...it was like a ghost town....there was really very little to do

however, the following July, my daughter was born

Re: NWR: New England in the Fall

What about Cooperstown? Even if you don't love baseball, it's such a beautiful and great town!

In CT, there's a great little bed and breakfast called Homespun Farms that my FH and I love (the Pear Room's Jacuzzi is AMAZING). And it's a short drive from the Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods and Mystic, Ct.

I don't know if you're interested in CT or upstate NY, but that's all I know! Sorry!

Thanks so much for the info! Cooperstown is fun but I have gone there every year since I was young (a family friend has a house there) so we were kind of looking for something different.

But the CT idea is good. I will look into Homespun Farms. Thanks so much!

Re: NWR: New England in the Fall

My birthday is in the fall and we went to Stowe, Vermont and stayed at the Green Mountain Inn. It was amazing and so beautifully 'fall' with all the lovely foliage. I would recommend it for sure!!!

Re: NWR: New England in the Fall

I do work for an organization called the New England Inns & Resorts Association, which is a group of 300+ properties in New England. They've got a very resourceful website -- www.newnenglandinnsandrsorts.com.

But be prepared to pay peak peak rates in the fall. Leaf peeping season is huge!

Re: NWR: New England in the Fall

We're going to Newport, RI this fall. We're going to do the cliff walk around the mansions, or what they like to call summer cottages! We just plan to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Re: NWR: New England in the Fall

I was just up in NH and it was gorgeous. We stayed in North Conway by the White Mountains which is pretty touristy, but there's a ton of nice inns, and a shopping outlet. The B&B we stayed in was The Cabernet Inn - really nice, really GREAT breakfast food and the owners are pretty nice. Some rooms have jacuzzi bath tubs, some have fireplaces - I'd definitely stay there again.

Vermont is always beautiful too. Last time I was there we stayed in the Cortina Inn, which was more like a hotel, but it was nice and had afternoon tea & desserts.

Newport in October has a big beer festival - if you're into that ... I think it's usually around Columbus Day weekend. It's such a nice town, and has a ton of shopping, restaurants, etc ...

I went to Newport last October (that's where I got engaged)! It's beautiful there and a lot to do. You wouldn't be disappointed.
