Filing BBB Complaints
Has anyone ever filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau? I never have, but am seriously considering doing so against a particular company. I'd rather not get into the details just yet .. you never know who might be reading these things, and I don't need these people making my life more stressful than they already have. How long do I give this company to correct the problem?
The manager has failed to call me despite my numerous requests and messages left with the 'customer service' people. At the same time, I feel as though I'm being lied to when I do call there looking to reach the manager, being told the manager is not there when in fact this person probably really is. I feel like I'm being stone-walled and I'm really annoyed about this. The 'customer service' person I have been dealing with has done nothing to make me feel as if things are moving in the right direction, and that leaves me with a sick feeling that this problem will never be resolved.

Re: Filing BBB Complaints
I filed a complaint several years ago due to a home repair that wasn't properly done. I had called several times over the course of a month and the owner was never in, never returned calls and finally I gave up and called the BBB. Unfortunately for me the guy disappeared ( we later found that he had changed the name of his business and was now ripping other people off), and the issue with him was never resolved. I would say it really depends on the situation. If you are at the point of frustration and ready to give up, contact the BBB. I do know that they have success with problem resolution, and that most companies do not like to get complaints that come through them. I think I would probably let the company you are dealing with know that if they do not resolve your issue, that will be your next step. Maybe just the threat will be enough. Good luck.

Re: Filing BBB Complaints
Wendy makes a good point about telling the company the BBB is your next step. You might want to write the letter to the BBB and include a copy with a letter to the company, telling them that the BBB letter will be mailed on a specific date if the issue is not resolved. We just had a nightmare of a problem with getting our phones installed. It took almost 3 weeks, and 5 technicians to the house, including calls and e-mails to customer service. I finally called the NY Public Service Commission, or some such state agency, and got them involved. After that, we got a call from the phone company, and some action and compensation.
It definately helps to elist the 'big guns' at times.

Re: Filing BBB Complaints
Thanks ladies. I do feel like I'm at the point of complete frustration and aggrivation, and do feel like giving up .. if only there wasn't so much money invested.I did make a threat to the 'customer service' rep who's been stone-walling me, saying I was going to complain to the BBB, and at first it seemed like it rattled her and was going to make a difference, but all week, I have not gotten one return phone call yet, have still not spoken to the manager yet and have no idea what our status is because no one seems to care, they just play a good game when you're on the phone with them so they can get you off the line .. but everyone just keeps passing the buck, and we're ending up lost in the shuffle.

Re: Filing BBB Complaints
Definitely try contacting them again either by phone or letter or both. If you call, ask to speak to someone with authority to make decisions when the manager is not there. Arm yourself with your list of written concerns so you don't forget anything and also jot down some solutions of your own. Be an active participant in solving your problem and you will get a lot further. If you choose to write a letter, then do the same thing. Address your concerns and provide some alternate solutions. Otherwise your concerns will be cast aside as just 'venting'.
Best of luck to you. And by all means, use the consumer problem solution programs that are available to you.
