Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

We paid ourselves so we kept it very small - we wanted 85 but wound up with 95. It was great - we got to enjoy seeing everyone and didn't feel completely overwhelmed by it all.

Even if you're not paying for the hall, you'll need less of the invitations, favors, programs, menus, and there will be fewer tables so you'll need fewer centerpieces so you will save on flowers, too... I'm sure there are other things that I'm forgetting....

Check with your hall about minimum requirements for your day and time first! I agree with pp that you save on everything.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

what are your reasons for downsizing? i think its great to try and save your parents $$$. i guess it depends on what guests are being cut and how much you will miss having them. i am all for smaller weddings. we had our closest family members, a few friends, and i didn't want to invite people from my job at the time, but DH did, so he invited a lot of people from his work. but if i could do it again i would have nixed his work friends (he stopped working that job and has NO contact with any of them now). a long as you are cutting guests you wont miss having there on your big day, then i think having the smaller wedding is a great option.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

the reasons are we have to pay for more centerpieces, favors, invitations etc! we are cutting friends from work! they are really just co-workers! i checked the minimum at the hall & its 125. so we definitely can swing it! i just dont want it to look to crowded w/ a smaller room!

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I'm having an even smaller wedding than that - inviting 100 and expecting 70 or so (the wedding is over 2 hours from NY). I'm looking forward to it - since it's so small, I'll know everyone there (no business friends of my parents or anything), I'll get to spend time with everyone, and I think it will just be a little less hassle for someone like me who is a terrible planner!

Try not to feel intimidated by other brides who have 200, 300 people at their wedding - everyone has their own style and their own budget limits. 125 sounds like a great number for a party, and if budgetary reasons limit you to that number, I really don't think you'll be any less happy on your special day.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

We're having a REALLY small wedding... partially because its kind of like a destination wedding (for my side of the family atleast) so most of my family can't come. But we also really just want to celebrate it with our closest friends. FH will probably invite a few people from work just because he's been witht he same team for like 10yrs and will be with them atleast another few years.

But anyway...I think small weddings are nice and intimate, and I'd really rather spend the day with people that mean something to me, and not invite people just to meet a minimum. So yea, go for it.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I am having a smaller wedding. We are inviting like 160 but expecting like 100 to 125. I want to know everyone there and have fun. I wanted a even smaller wedding while FH wanted a big wedding of over 300. We decided that 125 would be perfect!

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

Do you have alot of family and friends? I say I am inviting around 200 pp but I know its going to end up being over 250 +. Its not bad having a small wedding, you can say youre inviting 125 but maybe end up having 150 which is still not bad

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I think small is better, we have a rule, if we don't know them down the street then they aren't invited. We are not allowing parents to invite anyone that is not family

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I'm having a small wedding and I'm happy about it. We aren't the type to have thousands of people there anyway, then you never see everyone! My girlfriend had 400 people at her wedding and it was crazy. You saw them for a minute and not for the rest of the night!

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

We are having a small wedding. We are only inviting 125, so we will probably have less than that. We only wanted people at our wedding who meant something to su. If a person hasn't met both of us, that person was not included. It will be more intimate that way. We are not even inviting all of our first cousins.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I guess 'small' is all relative

we're having a small wedding (we're expecting about 60-65 people to attend... and that's including children)

I think 125 people is a medium sized wedding... and over 200 is large. 400, well that's plain HUGE.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

We're having a smaller wedding by choice, neither of us want to be introduced to people on our wedding day. We've decided to truly have a boutique wedding. We're going a lil bit more lux, w/ a venue that can't hold anyore than 130 guest & a min. of 60 or 65, we're hoping for 100.

If you can have a smaller wedding go for it! My fiance and I wanted to have about 120, but it didn't happen that way.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

Honestly, DH and I talk about this all the time. We paid for our wedding with help from both of our parents. We had a pretty expensive wedding and now that we have a house and a baby on the way, we would have like to use some of that money for other things. But, I always had this dream of the kind of wedding I wanted and if I had to do it all over again I probalby would do it the same way.
P.S. We invited 240 people and only 165 came. People I didnt expect to come did, and people I expected to be there didn't.
