Anyone Else Cancel their Photographer? & Vendor Rave

So anyway being an art and photography teacher had made me extremely picky about choosing a photographer for our wedding. I was getting frustrated because alot of the 'artistic ' photographers were also the most expensive photographers and way out of reach on my own budget. ( no way I can afford $3k - $6k)
So what ended up happening about 4 months ago after I booked our primary photographer,(from craigslist) I then booked a backup photographer (also on Craigslist )
I just didn't feel like I made the right decision on the second photographer soooo I started looking on craigslist again.. and came across this woman named Farnaz K. she is a freelance studio photographer for Martha Stewart Wedding Magazines, MAC, Vogue, Elle and some other big name companies. her work is amazing.. here is her site to those who have asked - Detailed orientated, the coloring was exactly what I was looking for in the outcome of the work. She just started shooting weddings this year and was offering and incredibly low price. I went to go meet her on Wed. at her apt. in the city and she is the sweetest and most professional person. I made a deal with her to just get the digital and film negatives (yes she is shooting with 35mm and digital!) and she is bringing an assistant! I am really happy now :) & confident


I felt bad about 'firing ' the other photographer' but I just wasn't feeling it.. something would have been bothering me. Did anyone else feel doubtful about their photographer?

HELL YEAH!

i had another photographer booked and PAID, from one of those 'all inclusive' places....and then i saw some of their work and i KNEW i had to cancel

best decision i ever made. i discovered that just cause i was on a budget, didn't mean i had to skimmp on quality!

I canceled mine and went with Gary Leli instead.

He kept not showing up to appointments left and right...

Yeah the guy I had hired was sweet..but I felt like I had booked him beacuse I just needed another body to take back up shots.. I should have went with my gut and not the cheap price tag.. I am glad I am not the only one..

I was going to go with someone from criagslist as well, but her prices were outrageous! She wanted 3K plus the cost of film (she said 20 bucks a roll) and transportation and she was only giving us the negatives and a list of people who could print them out. Granted, her work was amazing, but I mean...it would've cost me more than the guy I am going with now. I still think about changing my photographer from time to time, because the pics on their website are cheesy, but the shots they have up in their studio are breathtaking...and they did my brother's wedding, they have great shots.

Yeah not everyone on craigslist is cheap but there are some really accomplished photographers on there.. Just as long as you are happy.. now I don't feel like going on craigslist and finding the 'one ' photographer anymore lol..

PLUS THE COST OF film that is outrageous.. can you FM who she is .. I wonder if she is one of the ones I emailed.. That is insane..

i feel really good about my photog, love looking at her work! think thats a good sign. this is one thing i didnt mind splurging on! Im not having a videog so this is my one way of documenting the day!

but i think you def made the right choice and shouldnt feel bad. they will be working for you and you need to feel comfortable with how they are going to be capturing your day.

ur new photog, her work looks great. i hope everything works out nicely for you and you feel good about it!

My dream was to have Duet from the getgo, so when they weren't available I was crushed. I definitely settled with the photographer I went with...I loved the guy who ran the studio, but he wasn't going to be the photographer for my big day. So I had doubts galore and felt awful....finally it just nagged at me so much that I went and contacted Duet praying for an opening...and they had one!!! My original photographer was very understanding.

Hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Photography is HUGE. You will always have that...and last thing you need is doubts about your choice. You did the right thing!

I went searching through my saved e-mails for the photographer's name, but I can't find it! Basically she wanted to expand into wedding photography, but her laptop crashed and she wanted to recreate her portfolio. Her website was friggin' hot and I definitely wanted her and she wanted to photograph our wedding at Coney Island, but she wouldn't budge on price and it was too much for me and FH. If I find her name I will most definitely FM you.

But to answer the original question, I'd cancel any vendor with whom I didn't feel comfortable. You're paying for their services, and you deserve to get what you want - especially in something like photography, which will be around for a long time!

Oh are you talking about Aaron?? .. no no Aaron is still shooting the wedding.. he is the secondary photographer now. Aaron is very talented.. :) I booked him on the spot..

The guy I canceled with does backup photography for a studio out on long island.
