petite size wedding gowns

I wear petite size 6.
Is there a store where I can get petite sizes ?
or are there specific designers that come in petite sizes ?

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I don't know about that.. I always assumed that they would have you order in your size and then when it came in, it would be altered, no?

Re: petite size wedding gowns

Wedding gown sizes do not run like regular dress sizes, in almost all cases your dress will have to be altered. I know that they order the dress with extra fabric for taller people, but if your dress is too long, they will just fix it for you.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I'm a petite size 6 as well and I ordered an Eve of Milady gown. They're made for petites...the waist fits perfectly.

Of course the length needs to be taken up, but that's any dress...Try them!

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I am a petite size 4 to 6 and I got a Maggie Sottero that was actually a petite. It still needs alterations but it was more in the right proportions for me.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I'm petit and my gown is an Alvina Valenta. They take custom measurements under size 4 ( size 6 in real life) instead of ordering a specific size. The dress fits very well.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

You want off-the-rack? All of the bridal salons can order the size you need. But you will be trying on 8-12 size gowns. THey clip them in the back to keep them up.
Most gowns are ordered a size up or two. Not sure why designers do this but normally if you were a size 8 jeans/suit you wear a 10 or 12 bridal gown.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I got a size 4 from David's bridal (I am usually a 2), and the waist fits well too, but the shoulders have to be taken up and so does the bottom... Otherwise it fits. You may want to give them a chance if you're on a budget, but don't let them do the alterations, use another seamstress.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I posted on here before, but dont see it so I will post again. I am a size 2 - size 4 usually in regular clothes. I ordered an Eve Of Milady gown. I ended up ordering a 5. We took some in. I think they run small. I never heard of a place that specializes in petite wedding gowns. Good luck.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

Priscilla of Boston does make their gowns in petite. I went to the one in Roslyn Heights and tried one on. It did seem to fit me more correctly - though the size itself wasn't quite right the length and where the waist came to seemed better.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I ordered from David's..Surprisingly very nice (I've heard stories of that place) and really cheap! I ordered a size 2 and I'm pretty short. It will be in in about 6 more weeks. I'll let you know how it is.

Re: petite size wedding gowns

I ordered my dress from Priscilla of Boston. So far, they've been great. My salesperson did say that their store specifically catered to petite sizes. (I'm a petite size 4.) They're not the cheapest - I think prices start at about $2,000 - but I found it to be worth it
