Reasons for getting married at reception site
I know there are a number of us who are having our ceremony at our reception sites.I decided to do this, because I am not a very religious person and do not attend church regularly
and neither does my FI. So when I found out that you could have your ceremony and reception in one place, I thought that was great.
My FI was hesistant at first, but I won the battle.
I just wouldn't feel right getting married at a Church that I did not belong to.
What were your reasons ladies?

Fi is Penetecostal and I am Catholic. No church would marry us. We are having a priest and a pastor perform the ceremony.

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
Mine is simple, we're having an interfaith service and it's the most common ground we could find!

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
We are also interfaith (catholic & Jewish), so that's why we are getting married at the hall.

We didn't belong to a church, we are both Catholic but for the most part don't agree with the religion and follow it, and we loved the idea of having it all in one place (no driving involved--hate long intermissions between church and reception too!!)

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
I was raised Methodist but consider myself no religion since I don't believe in it. FH was raised Catholic but has the same non-beliefs as me. There was no way I would be married in a Catholic church - luckily FH family has not given too much flak about it (but just wait till we have kids, i'm sure the fun will start then), not that I would have cared if they did. and we'll be married by a judge. I also always wanted to be married outside.

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
FI is catholic and I am presbyterian ..we did not want to pick one church over the other plus to get married in his church i would have to convert so we thought it was a good common ground..Also neither of us have a strong connection to either church right now..we live in the city...We are excited about being outside for the ceremony (weather permitting) Also with the interfaith you can really personalize every aspect of your ceremony which we liked ...We also liked the whole all in one idea even though this means we are going to see each other before for pics..
That's it in a nutshell...

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
We are doing it for the convenience. We are not hiring limos and we do not have to worry about guests traveling. This is improtant to us because a number of people are from out of town and I did not want them to have to drive around NY. Our church is in Brooklyn and our reception is in LI.

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
We have several reasons. One being that we are getting married on good friday, you can not be married in a church that weekend. Two, both my FH and myself are not real 'church goers', it would have been a bit uncomfortable for us, Three being: I love Flowerfield so much, I wanted to extend my time there as much as I could! Hope this helps.

Thanks ladies.Sometimes you feel as though you are the only person who thinks a certain way, it is comforting to know that I am not the only one.

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
We are doing it because FI has already been married with a child. I already know that if he tried to get an annulment she would fight us all the way.

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
This is my second marraige so we could not get married in a church. Niether one of us if very religous so it really didn't make a difference. The most important thing to us is to be married and not where the ceremony is : ).

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
We're having an interfaith ceremony and it was the easiest solution for us. We also find it very convenient for everyone (and we're saving money with our phtographer and videorapher because of less traveling between places).

Re: Reasons for getting married at reception site
I have debated the 'limo' thing for a while. I really do not think they are necessary. So, my guess is that we are going to skip the limos in order to save a little money. However, I have to make sure I have a ride back to my hotel, LOL!

FH's family doesn't want one to take them from their house there and back, but I'm getting one big one from my house for my family and then one to take FH & I to hotel and a town car to take my mom & brother home.Welcome New Vendors
