engagement party gifts...

Our engagement party is in a few weeks and my FMIL told us we have to open gifts up not envelopes but gifts. I really do not want to and I told her I didn't want to and she thought i was being difficult. I've asked around and no one seems to have opened during the party. Did anyone open up gifts?

Re: engagement party gifts...

We didn't I think it's actually a little weird. I mean not everyone is going to give you a gift. Most likely money. So What we did was we brought them home and just opened them at home with my parents and FH's parents and a few friends.

Re: engagement party gifts...

My figuring was that what if you open one gift and it's like say something that costs 50 bucks and then the next you open is like waterford crystal you may make others feel uncomfortable as well.

Well put...

You should be dancing around and socializing at your e-party. And celebrating with friends and family, I think opening up gifts would be a bore to most guest.

Re: engagement party gifts...

Our e-party was in NY but we currently live out of state. Most people (thankfully) shipped our gifts to us here, but some brought gifts to our e-party. We had a table for them.

We did not open gifts at the party, and instead took them home to my parents house to open after. We had close family and some of the bridal party over for that (very informal).
