Gift Etiquette Question...

We received a check from some friends of ours that aren't able to make it to the wedding. Is it okay if we cash it now? Or is there some kind of waiting period?

Thanks!

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

This happened to us, also. They posted dated the check though, to July 15 (our RSVP date). But they made it out to Mr & Mrs JM E... so we can't do anything w/ it til after we're married anyway!

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

I actually noticed that they didn't post date ours, and it's just written out to me (haha - gotta love that!)...so I kinda think it's okay to now?

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

I have recieved two checks so far from people who aren't coming and one person told me to cash it right away and the other one didn't say anything. I don' t think it's rude... besides if I write a check I like it cashed ASAP so i don't feel like I have extra money in the account that isn't really there!

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

it's fine to cash it - I think it's rude to hold on to a check for a long period of time.

also if it's made out to Mr. and Mrs. even before your married your FH can deposit it because it has his name. if it's made out to miss etc and mr so and so there might be a problem but i think you can just both sign the back.

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

We got one and deposited it pretty quickly....you have to figure people probably don't want you to wait a few months and screw up their checkbook balancing....

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

Thanks! I agree - I hate when checks aren't cashed, so as long as other people feel the same way, I think we're good to go...

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

cash the check, & send them a little thank you note, than an official thank you after the wedding.

Re: Gift Etiquette Question...

I'd deposit it right away and send them a thank you note - and then another one with the picture with everyone else's.

Only one person that the check is made payable needs to sign it - Have fh sign and deposit the check next week.
