Keratin hair straightening
Has anyone had this done? I have an appt on Aug 28th. The guy who cuts my hair says it makes your hair healthier and it's not like the japanese straightening. It doesn't make you lose all the body to your hair either. Anyone who had this done, any thoughts? Or anyone who knows someone who had it done?

Re: Keratin hair straightening
I do the brazilian straightner which i believe is pretty much the same as the Keratin straightner. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! i have really curly hair but never wear it curly so its a pain to blow dry straight everyday. With the brazilian straightner my curls are still there wen i want them but they are looser and not frizzy. also its so much easier to blowdry my hair. when the weather is crappy outside my hair doesnt get all crazy and frizzy anymore. A coworker of mine is doing the Keratin this sunday. I will let you know what she thinks.

Re: Keratin hair straightening
OMG I had this done at the beginning of July and it was the best decision I made!! I used to do the Japanese, but hadn't done it in over 2 yrs bc I wanted my hair to be able to hold a style for the wedding.I did the Brazilian (it's the same thing) so that I wouldn't sit under a blow dryer in Greece for 45 minutes, and it was great! I now dry my hair in 10 minutes without sectioning and it's straight, doesn't get frizzy at all!! and when it air dries it's wavy but again no frizz!!

Re: Keratin hair straightening
I had the keratin treatment 3 weeks ago at Trulli salon in babylon and it is GREAT! It is actually healthy for your hair unlike the japanese and it doesnt make your hair pin straight, it just takes all the frizz out and makes it easier to blow dry or straighten

Re: Keratin hair straightening
the best thing about th keratin is that you don't get roots. It kinda just slowly goes away. It last for 3-5 months. I didn't have it done, but my sister is a hairdresser that does it.It's all protein, which is why it makes your hair healthier. the only thing i don't like about it is that it has formaldehyde (spelling?) in it. That totally makes me think of frogs from 8th grade biology

Re: Keratin hair straightening
I had it done at Nubest in Manhasset, they charge $100/hour, my hair is on the longer side and it took 2 1/2 hours, so $250. I thought Nubest would be more expensive than most salons, but my mom went somewhere in Great Neck and they charged her more. You also have to use special shampoo to make it last longer, the sodium sulfate which is in most shampoos makes it wear quicker, so you need one without the sulfate. They say it lasts around 3 months. I highly recommend!!The hardest part is that after you have it done, you can't wash your hair or put it up for 4 DAYS!! That was hard, it would have been better if I could have put it up

Re: Keratin hair straightening
I have had my hair japenese straightened for the past two years, and I def. recommend it. I have never heard of keratin straightening to be honest... but the japenese isn't bad if you go to the right place. Some places like to hike up the price and use fake chemicals. The place that does it for me is in flushing...I go once a year...my hair dries on it's own..(no more blow-drying) no frizz, has TONS of body..feels soo light and smooth..I loove it! It lasts about a year...granted your hair grows, so so does the straightening part..lol.. I looove it! I'm going in about another 2 months or so with about 4 of my friends. :)Edit: FM if you want more info. on this type of straightening.

Re: Keratin hair straightening
This treatment does make your hair look and feel soft and beautiful BUT it has formaldehyde in it which is also used to embomb dead people! Although they have redone it a few times and lowered the amount of it or replaced it with something else, i still think its not good to do! You cant wash your hair for 4 days and your breathing in that chemical the whole time! AND I believe that its not been around for a long time to know the side effects years down the line. I hope it doesnt cause cancer
Sorry but thats just my opinion!

I feel that way too. I am always scared to try new things. I would LOVE to do this but I want to wait a little while. Man, I would love to give up all the things I do to my hair to make it straight. But, I rather wait 5 years or so and see what the side effects are.

Re: Keratin hair straightening
Hey girls! So from what I am hearing from other people is that it's pretty much a protein treatment for your hair. I am very scared to do it bc my hair has lots of body now when I blow it out so I don't want to make it too straight! I am having it done in 2 weeks, I can take pics for you all if you'd like!! I'm nervous and excited!! Thanks for all the input!! I'm having it done at Industry80 salon in Patchogue, it costs $300. If anyone would like more info feel free to FM me at any time!!
