Re: Keratin hair straightening

I'm so glad that you girls r talking about this... THe salon i go to suggested this but I was kind of nervous to do this because my hair curls and holds great and I don't want to mess up the texture of my hair before my wedding.. Also they said it would cost $400 (way out of my budget) and apprently based on everyone else's experience this is overpriced for it. If anyone does or has gotten this done if they could share more info that would be great.. Thanks

Re: Keratin hair straightening

For those that are scared about the formaldehyde.....this product has been around for a long time but just not used in this country. For them to even sell it here they had to lower the amount of formaldehyde to such a low level. I wouldn't really be worried about the amount because formaldehyde is used in products we use everyday so we are constantly breathing it in. I have had it done 3 times now and each time it looks better and better. Shop around cause salons are doing it for 150.

This treatment does make your hair look and feel soft and beautiful BUT it has formaldehyde in it which is also used to embomb dead people! Although they have redone it a few times and lowered the amount of it or replaced it with something else, i still think its not good to do! You cant wash your hair for 4 days and your breathing in that chemical the whole time! AND I believe that its not been around for a long time to know the side effects years down the line. I hope it doesnt cause cancer Sorry but thats just my opinion!

almost all beauty products have formaldehyde - even nail polish ... and to my knowledge that hasnt given anyone cancer yet... i would not just throw around the 'C' word... so doesnail polish remover and many MANY chemicals we use around the house daily...

Re: Keratin hair straightening

I have very dry, but curly/wavy/ FRIZZY hair. I had it done a year ago... Yes there is formaldahyde...and I had to wear a mask as she applied it. Yes you could not touch your hair (no hair clips, pins, rubber bands NOTHING) or wash it for about 4 days.
Yes, it tamed my hair and made it easier to blow dry... BUT it also over conditioned it a bit, and i felt it was always a lil limp or 'dirty' looking.
Also, and this could be from blow drying and highlighting...but my hair seemed very overprossed about four months later. I didnt want to risk the damage and do it again.
good luck!
btw it was about 150 at the dominican salon i go to
