To get the wedding dress before someone gets engaged??

My friend got her wedding dress before she got engaged. She knew she was going to get engaged soon (and she did) but she got hers beforehand. Has anyone else done this?

but, i booked my RH before i got engaged!!!!

but we booked it only a week before we got engaged

My friend who was engaged before kept trying to get me to try on wedding gowns and I wouldn't do it. I felt like it's just a superstition and it's really what you believe.

I didnt want to say anything to her to get her upset, but I just thought it was a little odd. She was soo excited so I was happy for her

And everythings seems to be going GREAT!! It couldn't be better..

I think that's weird. I mean, you are not officially engaged yet you buy a dress.

I knew someone who knew someone that wasn't engaged yet and booked a hall and then never got engaged!

I'm not sure that it's bad luck, but I think it definitely takes away some of the fun associated with getting engaged and starting to go dress shopping. Just my opinion, though.

I waited until we were officially engaged to start any planning...I wouldn't even buy a wedding mag until I had the ring!

She went shopping before she got engaged

and basically started planning beforehand as well. Me too, I didnt even look at a wedding mag before

I would hold off planning before getting engaged. I know that before I got engaged I was a major lurker on this site but I never actually planned anything in fear that it might not happen and I was also being a little superstitious LOL...even though he asked my parents permission before hand.

I knew we were getting engaged but had no idea when. I refused to even acknowledge it until I actually had the ring on my finger! Everyone kept saying 'when you two get married' and I would say 'IF we get married'

I think it's all what you believe in. I didn't want to jinx anything!!!

i don't think it's bad luck but it is weird. I mean what if something happened and it didn't happen lol.

Plus it would take the fun out of it! And I'd be mortified to tell everyone when you get engaged- 'Are you excited to dress shop?' 'Oh I have it already!'

We booked before we were officially engaged as well. I knew it was comming (he's horrible at lying even if it's in order to suprise me lol) so we just got a head start.
