Fathers or FFILs wearing suits..

We decided that our dads will just wear suits. My father is wearing a black suit, white shirt and a black and white tie. I would rather have him wear a tie that has a little plum in it (my mother's dress is plum) but he insists that the tie has to be black and white... whatever.

So I told FH that I would buy his father a white shirt and tie for Xmas to wear to the wedding. I went to Macys today and picked out a really nice tie.. it has grey, maroon and blue in it. It's nice b/c it matches well with either a black, grey or navy suit.

My question is.. should I not have picked a tie with color for FH's dad? Any etiquette on this? FH's mom is deceased and his father is not re-married so there is no one to 'match with.'

Not at all, I'm sure the tie is lovely. I wouldn't worry about it.
