wearing e-ring at work?

My mother just told me she thinks I shouldn't wear my engagement ring at work - she said that diamonds aren't for everyday wear and it looks too showy. I can't imagine not wearing it everyday - at least until we are married, maybe then I'll save it for special occasions. Mom thinks the ring is why I've had issues with my female boss. What do you all think?

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

I wear it everyday..My DH even notices if I don't (I leave it home when I am doing the laundry at my mom's house because I don't want to lose it). You are not being showy when you wear it. It is a sign of the love you have between the two of you. In my opinion you should wear it and wear it proudly!

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

Egad, I've never heard of such a thing. If it's a problem, it's certainly not *yours*. I would wear it in good health - regardless of anyone else - if that's what you want to do.

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

I have heard things like that mentioned by recruiters - Women can be jealous if they interview or have someone working for them if they have a bigger e-ring. And Men could think that since they are getting married, they wont focus on the job and will quit soon after the wedding.

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

WHA?? That's just silly. I spend my life at work, why wouldn't I wear my e-ring?! (unless it's to avoid my nosy coworker who keeps asking how many carats!!)

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

Christine, funny you should say that.....every time I go to a headhunter or recruiter they ask me if I am engaged or married.....and that is true, I have felt like I have lost out on jobs because they saw the on my hand! Prob think I am gonna get preg in a few yrs and leave (which is true LOL) hehehe

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

My mother has the same mentality. She wanted me to put my ring in a safety deposit box and only wear it on special occasions!
Not.
I can sort of understand why it would sometimes be an issue at the workplace for reasons that were already mentioned, but for all the thought and significance of it, I say wear it proudly and forget what anyone else thinks. What's on your finger shouldn't determine your value as an employee in terms of your bosses and if your colleagues are jealous, too bad for them.

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

I wear mine everyday. But if it was over 2 carats I probably wouldn't feel right running around NYC with it for safety reasons.... also- mine is set pretty low, so I never feel like it's sticking out or anything... As for bosses being jealous? that's simply GROSS.

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

Also keep in mind 'back in the day' women really didn't wear their engagement rings all the time... my Grandma got married in a Platinum 'set' and had a gold ring blessed. I've only EVER scene this gold band. I had no idea about the platinum set until she offered me the wedding band (which I proudly wear every day too- with my ering).. It's a different mentality I think.

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

The way I see it is if I have to turn around the ring in the subway to avoid it being seen- it's too big to be worn safely in the city- my friend at school has a 3.5 and I worry for her!

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

I never heard of that, but truthfully, is someone would be threatened by an e-ring would you want to work for them anyway?

I turn it on the subway, but I wear it everyday with pride .

Re: wearing e-ring at work?

I wear mine everyday too...but I do turn it around in the subway...I dont want any unecessary attention.

I did forget my ring once and felt so naked without it. I kept checking my finger for it.
