OMG! Fi is pulling my bridemaid to be his 'best man'!
Okay, this is the situation i put FI good friend from high school in my bridal party. She is pretty much a tomboy. We also put her boyfriend to be an usher. So we have an even number. She is dreading that she has to wear a dress to the wedding and keeps mentioning that she pay us off if she doesn't have to wear a dress. So FI called me and told me that he is pulling her out of my side and making her his 'best man' because she doesn't wan't to wear a dress and he is taking out her boyfriend as an usher. So now I need a new bridesmaid and I don't feel comfortable that she is going to wear a tux and be on the guys side. AM I being selfish for feeling this way?

Maybe you can buy her a tuxedo-dress top & very stylish pallazzo pants... that way you both win! She can still do her hair up & whatever & everyone will be happy
(well, except for her BF who just got booted
)BTW... I am my BF Best Woman at his wedding

I know sometimes women are on the men's side if they're close friends and such, but never heard of a woman wearing a tux - that's a first!

I would not be okay with her wearing a tux either. I think that is going to look weird and she is going to draw mass attention to herself in a tux. She can't handle wearing a dress for a few hours??? What is she going to do if she ever gets married? I would tell her to get over it and deal! Even if she stands on your FI's side she should still be in a gown, even if it is black to match the tuxes.

Re: OMG! Fi is pulling my bridemaid to be his 'best man'!
I would tell FI that it's not appropriate for her to wear a tux. And if she is such a good friend to you, she should not be so selfish on 'His' special day (don't mention you-event tho' it is) and wear a dress for a few hours. Maybe she is also concerned about the shoes. You should tell her she can wear low comftrable shoes. And ask her if not wearing a dress is more important than having her boyfriend removed from the bridal party? Finally, did you ask her to be in your bridal party or did he? Does she know the other girls? Maybe she thinks she will be more comftrable being aroung the guys instead of you and your girls? Maybe if you spoke with her directly instead of your FI and expresse how you also wanted her to be part of the girls? Worth a try????

Well, I don't know about wearing a tux??? In my wedding I had my 14 year-old cousin as my Man of Honor. He wore a tux and stood next to me. I think she should wear a dress no matter what side she was on. It would look kind of weird in a tux. But, this is only my opinion, and if it were my wedding. I understand how you feel!

My brother is going to be my man of honor- and he isn't wearing a dress! She should still wear a dress- IMO

Re: OMG! Fi is pulling my bridemaid to be his 'best man'!
It would not make a difference to me where this person would be in the bridal party, or what they wore. When I got married I didnot even care what dress my girls wore as long as the color was the same.I feel as though it was DH wedding too and he has a right to his opinion and what he wants. Example:
We walked into the reception to 'Enter Sandman' by Metallica
He wore his favorite KISS tie, because it meant so much to him.
As long as both of us were there I really did not care.

I agree that it would be kinda weird. I think the idea of palazzo pants sounds like it might be a good compromise if she really can't **** it up and be a good sport for a few hours!Really now, it's only a few hours, and it's your day, not hers! Maybe you can reason with her?
Good luck!

Re: OMG! Fi is pulling my bridemaid to be his 'best man'!
I didn't see the problem til you said she wants to wear a tux. ITA w/Eveneden - that will just draw attention to her. I wouldn't mind her being 'Best Man' but she needs to wear a dress or if you can stand it, maybe a really stylish pants suit, that's as far as I could go

Take EvenEden's comment and paste it here. I agree 100%If she is such a close friend, she can Suck it up for 5 hrs and wear a dress

maybe if she wants - wear a dress for the ceremony/pictures and then she can change into a pants suit or something?

Re: OMG! Fi is pulling my bridemaid to be his 'best man'!
I spoke to Fi and he is going to talk to her and see what she says about switching over. I think she would rather switch over because of the pink dress situation but honesty it is only a few hours, it's not going to kill her. If I can wear putrid green bridemaid dress with a little hat as a bridemaid for my cousin, I think she can wear an nice elegant pink dress!! For GOd's sake it will only be for a day!! But thanks for giving me some alternatives on the dress code.
