Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

My boyfriend and I just found out we are moving to Ireland November 1st. His job has transferred him. We wanted to get married prior to leaving. I have called so many catering halls to see if they have a date available the first or second week in October and the pickings are small. We are limited to the dates because we already booked a 10-day vacation to Grenada (now impromtu honeymoon) for October 14th.

Our choices are

Chateau La Mer
East Wind
Captain Bills
Ladakins

Any recommendations on DJs, Flowers, Hair & Make-up. I hope it is possible to get a dress in that short of a time. Any and all help will be appreciated....Thanx in advance.

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

For the dress I would try Jessica McClintock, I believe you can buy one off the rack. There is one located in Roosevelt Field.

We are using DJ Unlimited out of Floral Park. They seem to have a lot of DJs.

Good luck!!

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

wow! Ummm, regarding a dress - you might be able to buy a sample from a bridal boutique...and have it altered. Flowers aren't a big problem...those can be ordered now. We are usuing M & F in East Islip for Centerpieces...

..what day were you planning?

Captain Bill's is great, my wedding is there on the twelfth of Oct.

Hair and make-up...try your local salon for hair...Make-up??? - Also you can call some of the vendors on this site.

Good Luck!!! What about a destination wedding in Ireland? It is beautiful there.

Wow! Lucky you to be moving to Ireland. I'm not much of a help with the questions that you asked, but I was thinking what KerrC was - would you want to get married in Ireland? There are a bunch of Irish brides here that could help you.

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

Congrats! And YES, you can plan a great wedding in that amount of time.
1- Get your dress, buy it off the rack then have it tailors for you. Most places will let you buy off the rack, try RK Bridal in NYC, they have a large selection.
2- Get the photographer / music booked.
3- Call salons for hairstylists.
Flowers / limos are much easier, leave that for last.
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

IrishBride - we are moving to Dublin and we are really looking forward to it.

KerrC - CB has the 5th available. I have been to a wedding there b/4. A friend of mine husband is a chef there and they had their wedding there.

I would love to have a destination wedding but that would limit who would be able to celebrate with us.

I really think I must be crazy to try and pull it all off (moving and a wedding) but I am going to give it my best shot. I have heard some good things about DJs unlimited I am going to try and give them a call today.

Thanks for the advice about David's Bridal, I have one one block from my aparment in Brooklyn. I will stop after work tonight.

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

You can do it!!!

As soon as you book your ceremony/reception get going on your

invites
music
photographer

If you have trouble finding a photographer try local collages that offer photography courses.

If you are a sample size try regular salons otherwise Davids, Lord & Taylor, Estelles (on Rt 110), Jessica McClintock for something off the rack. Same thing for any Bm's Fg.s

Flowers and limos can be done last minute.

Good Luck!

We booked Doctor Dance (for DJ) and Tributes Floral for my SIL's birthday party only about two weeks beforehand. I would recommend either vendor.

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

A lot of bridal salons have a selection of dresses that are off the rack for a discounted price. These are usually dresses from several seasons ago. I bought my dress off a sample sale and didn't have to worry about it coming in on time. Good luck!

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

What an exciting and stressful time. I would definately say go wiht Captain Bills. Thye could not be nicer and weddings there are great. They also include your centerpieces and your cake. Canterpieces are from M&F florist in East islip and they can probably do the rest of your flowers too. They are very talented. As far as dresses I would check out Davids Bridal and even Estelle's for your Bridal Party too. Best of Luck. How many people are you planning? I'm sure it can be done and done well so don't worry.

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

Checklist: Getting Hitched in a Hurry

Use this six-weeks-till-the-wedding master checklist if you have an extremely limited amount of time to get your wedding organized. Don't let the time frame scare you. If you have more time to spend on planning and preparation, you may be able to use the Wedding Calendar and if you have even less than the six weeks that this list assumes, just follow the order given but modify your weekly schedule. You can get it done!

Six Weeks

*Set budget
*Draw up guest list
*Choose two possible dates
*Start scouting sites
*Call vendors and set up appointments to meet with advertisement them
*Shop for a dress -- and buy, rent or borrow one ASAP
*Spread the word (let guests know your wedding date so that they can save the date and start to make travel plans)

Five Weeks

*Nail down a site for both ceremony and reception *Book all your wedding professionals
-Caterer
-Band
-Photographer
-Videographer
-Officiant
*Order invitations that can be done in one week (you may need to pay a 'rush' fee)
*Order rings
*Arrange accommodations (reserve blocks of rooms, call friends with guest rooms, and so on) for out-of-town guests
*Book honeymoon (with such limited time, you may want to just book a long weekend somewhere nearby, then plan a more leisurely vacation at a later date)

Four Weeks

*Register for gifts
*Address and mail invitations
*Choose bridesmaids' dresses (right off-the-rack attire is best; check department stores or just pick a color and let them wear what they want)
*Have your fiance and his groomsmen buy or reserve their tuxedos or suits
*Meet with your officiant to plan the ceremony
*Reserve wedding-day transportation
*Research marriage license requirements at your County Clerk or City Hall's office (how long it takes to get, when it expires, if you need a blood test, etc.)

Three Weeks

*Buy your accessories: headpiece, shoes, jewelry and so on
*Get your hair trimmed or cut, if necessary
*Book a hair stylist and makeup artist for your wedding day, if desired

Two Weeks

*Meet with your caterer or reception site banquet manager to taste the food and plan your menu
*Choose a first dance song
*Give the band leader or DJ your 'dos and don'ts' list of musical requests

One Week

*Contact any guests who haven't RSVP'd
*Send final headcount to caterer
*Make reception seating arrangements
*Pack for your honeymoon
*Have a final dress fitting

Three Days

*Pick up dress, rings and marriage license
*Find something old, borrowed and blue (forget the sixpence)
*Call to confirm vendors (a good task to delegate to someone else)
*Check your accessories: Do you have everything you need?

One Day

*Get manicure
*Set out everything you need for the next day
*Forget about anything that didn't get done
*Go enjoy your rehearsal dinner
*Try to get a good night's sleep

Wedding Day

*Exercise, get a massage, meditate, pray or do something equally energizing yet relaxing
*Eat a carbohydrate-plus-protein meal - but don't overdo the caffeine
*Put in contact lenses before getting makeup done (wait until after your hair appointment if possible though - all that hairspray may aggravate your eyes)
*Show up on time for hair and makeup appointments
*Get dressed (remember to use the bathroom first)
*Switch engagement ring to your right hand
*Share a private moment with your fiancé
*Give your parents hugs before everything gets too crazy
*Spend a moment alone to calm down before the ceremony
*Take a look at yourself in the mirror - and smile
*Have fun!

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

we planned our wedding in three weeks..... we are using the down time to work our a$$es off so that we can pay for it in cash (we refuse to go into debt for our wedding, especially when we want to buy a house & I am going to grad school 6 months after the wedding.)

It is very possible, my best advice is to dedicate one day to determining what you want for each thing. That way, when you shop, you will know what you are looking for & will not be distracted by sales people's opinions. You will find that when you know exactly what you are looking for the shopping is very quick & relatively painless.

One of my oldest & dearest friends got married & moved to Ireland right after we graduated HS & only has a few months to plan it. This was before David's Bridal & other off-the-rack stores, so her dress was her biggest obstacle. I think you can do it Plus you will have LIW to help you along the way.

Re: Help, Can you plan a nice wedding and move to Europe in 10 weeks???

David's bridal in Queens seems to be very helpful. I also looked breifly at rK. Both have off the rack at good prices. As far as the Hall I definately recomend Chateau La Mer! FM me I will try to give you some help. Also booking the hall and the reception at the hall is a good way to lessen the stress.
