ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--Food tasting??

Did any of you get a complimentary meal for a testing (tasting, whatever) before the wedding?(or two) I was curious since i know other places do it (swan club for one), and we asked our BM and she said we can buy a meal. (WTH??) I was wondering if this was the norm.

I was a little put off with that since we are shelling out $14000 (at least!) the least they can do is give us a $50 meal!!!

I just want to make sure we aren't being taken advantage of.

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--QUESTION

You know, I've been wondering the same thing. We're getting married at Fox Hollow (another fine Scotto establishment) and I haven't heard a thing about a tasting. Perhaps we should call on this.

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--QUESTION

I booked at Westbury Manor and I think we get tastings when we are deciding on a menu, but they don't give tastings to prospective customers.

just thinking the same thing! I made my appointment for 8/22 to chose the menu, linens, etc. but they didn't mention that...hmm! We had better at least taste some food - that's why my FI wants to come!

Should we post on NW board and ask? Is anyone here that far along with their planning? Scotto Brothers girls where are you?

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--Food tasting??

The day my FH and I went to look at WM, there was a wedding reception in progress, so Gennaro had the chef send us a sampling of appetizers (big plate!) and two plates of the entrees.

Needless to say, FH was thrilled (always hungry) and the food was incredible!

And this was the first time we were there.

At Chateau Briand, Jericho Terrace and WM, when we mentioned a big interest in the food, they bought out a sample immediately.

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--Food tasting??

we were annoyed at our banquet manager today... we called her to let her know we were coming to drop off a deposit and ask some questions... FH asked if we could try any food that may be lying around... she said she'll see what she can do.. CH ends at 8 and we were to be there at 8.

so we go meet with her and FH asks about food AGAIN (she keeps forgetting) and she said 'oh you just missed the cocktail hour, it ends at 8. i could have gotten you some food' She KNEW we were going to be there... have stuff waiting for us. I almost want to ask for a new BM cuz she always seems put out when we ask her stuff....
she offers a free drink at the bar... I DON'T GIVE A C R A P about your drinks!!!!'

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--Food tasting??

When we went back our second time to book, they were getting ready for a wedding so our BM brought us some food to take home and try. That was after we signed the contract. Beforehand, we went one night to eat at the restaurant with our families and try the food. They gave us a fruit platter for free at the end - that's about it. But a woman at work told me at the Fox Hollow when she went to pick her menu she was confused about a few food choices and the minute she said that they brought her and FI a sampling to taste of the meals. Maybe someone who just got married there would know. But when I go for the final meeting, I want to have a tasting!!

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--Food tasting??

I got married at the WM and only had wonderful expierences! They didn't offer a true tasting when my DH and I went to do the menu, but we had mentioned that everything on the menu was making us very hungry and she called for a waiter to bring us a huge platter of o'hordurves (sp?) to pick on and I mean it was huge! She kept refilling our drinks and sending up more food- desserts etc. My DH and I booked WM through Dave Garren and the woman we did our menu with was Alexandria. She was very accommodating and nice. There were no weddings/parties going on when we did the menu. They are a resturant so they were able to bring us up food.

best luck!

Lora

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--Food tasting??

I think some halls look at food tastings as an insult. Kinda like 'our reputation speaks for itself'. BUT they may not realize that we may need tastings to get an idea of what we prefer, or to get a feel for their 'style' of cooking. At times we may not even know what a certain type of food is or how it looks when served. Brides at halls that do not do tastings should communicate these ideas to their BM. Maybe this will help get them on the same page as us. Just a thought!

Re: ATTN: Westbury Manor brides!!!--Food tasting??

I was told that there is no food tasting, if we wanted to check out the food we need to try out the restaurant...
