Met with Flower Michele & Jack and Rose today...

My first appt was with John at Flower Michele. After taking down the obligatory information, he was eager to see my ideas. I showed him pics of my dress and the BM dress - he took notes on the details of my dress - from the material to the style to the beading! He took my rough ideas and ran with them and was able to articulate what I was envisioning in my head - without trying to sell himself or steer me in a different direction. He listed all the ideas on a piece of paper as we spoke and then came back with pricing - he photocopied his notes & the pricing and gave me the copy. You can tell off the bat that he is a talented artist and LOVES (loveslovesloves) what he does. I left feeling very excited about another element of my wedding day, coming together.

My next appt was with Jack of Jack and rose. After making me wait 20 minutes, I was eager to see what he could offer me. I scanned through 150 pictures (of what I thought were very dated bo-k's, but he said they were what 'everyone wants' since they were pics from the past 6 mos) and listened to his neverending sales pitch. He seemed more interested in telling me of how fabulous they are instead of hearing me. I went in expecting to show him my ideas and get a price breakdown...when I finally said 'beautiful flowers, but not my style - I brought some ideas'...he said show them. So I did - but he lost interest - he was scanning more brochures to boast of his 'talent' and seemed put off that I'd actually have my own ideas! I even paused when it was clear (3 different times!) that he wasn't paying attention to me and he STILL didn't seem to care. When it was clear - after the 3rd mention of what I expected from the visit, that he wasn't going to give it to me - I thanked him for his time and left. Very unhappy to have wasted my time, might I add.

I LOVE John!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never met jack though.

I thought many of Jack pictures looked dated as well (those low oval vases with the thin flowers and sticks... very 80's) And he didn't want to hear my hydrangea idea. Not too many handtied or nosegays. (and almost all roses... i don't want roses. and a lot of tiger lilies.. hate those)

Thats the thing... people complain that their appointments with Burtons were too short. Well ours was a little longer with Jack, but I liked that Burtons wasn't trying to boost themselves up and 'Sell' themselves for those 45 minutes.... they wanted to hear from ME!!! and Mike gave me a sunflower when i said how much i loved them

To each his own... not everyone is looking for the same things in their vendors. Doesn't make Jack a bad person... just not what i was looking for.

wow..thats too bad. Im sorry you had a bad experience with Jack. He was great with me too. But its great you liked flower MIchelle! i didnt make it to see her!!

I just meet with Jack on wed and tonight Im going to see flower michelle.
I thought Jack was nice and he gave me a great price. But im excited to meet John. Ill let you know tommorow.

Thanks - John was so great to work with - very creative and open to ideas - we bounced a lot off of each other.

Jack seems like a nice person - just too much with the hard sell. Personally I think someone's work should speak for them and not them boasting about their fabulousness. Even when he complimented me on my e-ring, he managed to turn it back on himself...about how he appreciated art and that's what he noticed about my ring - it's uniqueness and blahblahblah - it was all b/c he's an artist - again, with the hard sell. I was just so put off with the fact that he wanted to arrange another 'degisn meeting' where we would go over ideas and details and pricing - WHAT did I take the day off for? To look through a book of (what *I* considered) DATED bo-k's?!?!

everybody has different personalities, that's what makes wedding planning so challenging and fun. it is all about finding the right person for you.

my fh and i loved jack, loved his pictures of the bo-ks, and loved his ideas. my fh happens to be a real 'people person' and they just clicked talking about movies and sports and stuff. i am not a 'people person'! but he was really happy with our meeting.

its all about who you click with.

I also booked John of Flower Michele and think his stuff is awesome. Many florists have very 'dated' ideas, John was refreshng to find.

I met with John yesterday and really liked him. I definitely liked that he gave an itemized list; gave me a good sense of where we could add and cut back.

I have a meeting scheduled with Jack & Rose next week - we'll see how it goes! But it's useful to get this feedback ahead of time.

I also met with both and defintely felt like I wasted 2 hours with Jack discussing his business and experience, etc. The 'design session' he referred to would have taken up an additional 2 hours. No thank you! And I agree with the dated look.
John @ F.M. was totally different. I left in an hour with a clear idea of what flowers I wanted and what my bo-k would look like.
BUT, Jack was like$3000 less in quote. I don't know how he can quote a price when he doesn't know what I want, but he did.
I'm still looking around for someone with great ideas and good prices.

I booked with John, but have heard many good things about J&R.
Just goes to show how opinions and tastes vary!

from my impression, florists can give you a quote, because no matter what type of flower you choose, it's the same price. You the decide on hi or low centerpieces, ceremony flowers etc. No real details or color, flower, etc at the first meeting. After you sign you do back for the '2-hour design session' to do just that. You bring in the color swatches from your dresses, linen colors etc, and you design the B-Q, and centerpieces you want. Then you get to see a sample.

I really just expected the meeting to go differently than it did. I obviously thought he was good enough to visit - just didn't work with me the way I had hoped.
