Family Arrested After Catering Hall Fight

An Astoria man and his two sons were arrested at a wedding reception in Mineola yesterday after getting into an altercation with staff and police which wounded two officers, Nassau police said.

The argument began at approximately 11 p.m. when Jonathan J. Torres, 24, left the Jericho Terrace catering hall on Jericho Turnpike carrying a flower stand belonging to the facility. After a waiter informed him that he could not take the property, an argument escalated with the defendant, the waiter and other employees. Police said Jonathan Torres attempted to strike several employees with a cane he was carrying.

After police arrived on the scene, officer James Viviani injured his back after Michael A. Torres, 22, interfered with the arrest of his brother Jonathan. Their father, Jose A. Torres, 65, interfered with Michael's arrest, injuring officer Michael Mardinay's left knee. He, in turn, was also arrested.

All three Torres reside at 18-18 21st Drive, Astoria. Jonathan J. Torres was charged with second degree assault, two counts of second degree menacing and one count of resisting arrest. Michael A. Torres was charged with two counts of second degree assault, second degree obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest. Jose A. Torres was charged with second degree assault, fourth degree attempted grand larceny, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Officers Viviani and Mardinay were treated and released from an area hospital. The Torres are scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Hempstead.

OMG... we passsed by there at like 1230 last night and waswondering why there were 2 cop cars on the street, and some inside the parking lot
