High Schools- Link to List of all 700 provided.

I dont know if this has been listed or not, but I thought it night be of soome use to those of you who are house shopping. The list is from 02 but keep in mind that many of the schools listed on here have been high in the rankinbg for many years. The number listed to the left indicates there placemnt nationally.


Public schools are ranked according to a ratio called the Challenge Index devised by Jay Mathews: the number of Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests taken by all students at a school in 2002 divided by the number of graduating seniors. Schools that chose more than half of their students by grades or test scores were not considered because the index is designed to identify schools that challenge average students and does not work well with schools that have few or no average students. The schools ranked below have the strongest AP or IB programs in the country. Each of them is in the top four percent of all American high schools measured this way.

Well I cant say for sure, considering thses rankings are based on AP placement and tests. Not uninvolved parents, blind bearucrats, and really really stupid, malicious children.

If the ranking is soley based on performance than it's likley they will be on the list next year.

Claud - that is sad. I hope that a few bad people don't bring down the whole school. I graduated from there in 1985 and I loved it. I hope they can bring it back to what it was

Thanks for posting the survey again - I had posted this link a long time ago but for some reason the link no longer worked.

Liz- I agree it is sooo sad that a incident by a couple can scar the whole student body. It can happen anywhere and probably does but this whole school has become a joke of many. (I have seen some shows on hs hazing and it is gross - I have seen and been a part of college hazing but never like that!)

I didn't know Amy Fisher went to Kennedy - too funny - DH will get a kick out of it...I live a few blocks from Kennedy!

this is very important to me which is why I bought a smaller house than I would have liked. So I could be in a town with a great High School. Syosset # 60 in the nation.

Harborfields will have to do until we move to Lloyd Harbor/Neck when our children will attend CSH.

tammy - the list was long - looks like she only put the top 150 schools in this area (NY, NJ, PA, etc.) and cut out the ones in other states.

Jenn, I disagree! I think it's great that our district even made the cut! There's plenty of districts on LI that didn't even make the list....East Meadow, Connetquot, Sachem...just to name a few!

I am so very surprised our school district made it, not so much for any other reason than it is a very small one. But it's in the 200's, so I'm happy, although we are thinking of sending our kids to Catholic school.

We are thinking of staying in Lynbrook and it is #385 on that list. I am happy it is at least on there!

The houses we're looking at aren't on that list, but I can't say I'm too surprised....LI is insanely expensive as it is!

There are many good schools on LI....but the one I went to has dropped signifcantly since I graduated!

as stated previously, consider what goes into ranking these schools. it is NOT an indication of how "good" the school may be in your eyes.
