Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
We just bought a house in Syosset. We moved in this weekend. The area is fantastic but the houses (even small ones like ours) are pretty expensive. How about Levittown?

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
was going to recommend Long beach to you ...until I saw that 'not too expensive' part... unfortunetly, the housing market is tight here...altho there are quite a few homes up for sale- be prepared to pay over $300.0 for anything decent...prob more than that. ( the flip side- the value of our home has increase 20% or so since we bought it 3 years ago!)great community- a lot of extra things going on in town- fall harvest festivals, lots of parades, mini marathons, the great boardwalk, very good schools, food restaurants, etc
and it's own LIRR line...always get a seat in the morning!

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
Thanks! Well we're looking to spend up to $350K on a home, but we're trying to narrow down the neighborhoods, since we don't live there we don't know much about which places to look so we're trying to get a better idea by asking people who are familiar with the neighborhoods.

How far out do you want to go? Do you want to be closer to the city border.$350 will be tuff to find, but good luck.

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
Wacky, I don't want to go to far in I've found some houses in my range, but I need specific areas recommended. I did the real estate course, but I haven't taken the test yet...too many other things going on right now, but I do want to become a real estate agent.

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
Where were the houses located in your range? It will be easier that way people can say yah or nahI live in Gibson in Valley Stream its actually a cute little neighborhood.
You can find some capes for about $375 plus in Merrick which is a great area, SD #25.

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
why not queens side towns...like Bayside, Floral Park, Bellerosewhen you figure in the much lower taxes...the price may be right...

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
BillysBride, The gibson area of Valley Stream is nice. Central Valley Stream has gotten way to messy for me.'
'Lynbrook is nice also, but stay in SD #20 or SD#24 if you can.
Merrick is nice also but can be pricey, if you buy in Merrick but the Levittown SD it tends to be a little less expensive.
'
'If you need info on VS let me know, I have a good broker for you.

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
For $350,000 it is going to be very hard to find anything decent, especially in Nassau County. My parents were looking at houses and every house they saw under $400,000 needed alot of work. As in what areas you want to live in, I can give you some ideas.Valley Stream, pretty cheap...but the area isnt as safe as it used to be. If you were going to move into Valley Stream I would say to live off Mill Road but not near Green Acres Mall. If you know the area, then I would say near the Elementry School, Carbonaro. Or off Rockaway avenue.
Lynbrook, is very expensive. Not only do you have to pay regular tax, you have to pay Village tax. My family have lived in lynbrook since 1965. The taxes on my house are over $8000. It is insane. Some Areas of Lynbrook are very pretty. The area I live in is called The Yorkshires. It is a very quiet, safe area. With many families and kids around. The school district is district 20, and 24. If you live in 24 like I do, the schools are valley Stream schools. If you live in District 20 then the schools are Lynbrook Schools.
OceanSide. I would recommend looking here. This is where my parents want to live, and where my sister lives. The taxes are reasonable and the school district is good.
RockVille Center....Taxes are very high.
Baldwin...I wouldnt even Consider.
Freeport....I wouldnt even Consider.
Merrick...For $350,000 you should be able to find something in North Merrick. Im not sure about the taxes or the school District.
Bellmore...My Fiancee lives here. This is where we will prolly by a house in the future. The taxes are reasonable and I think you can find a cape for $340,000 plus. I know of one for sale right now. It is right on the corner of Newbridge road, and I dont know the name of the side street. It is a pretty big cape though.
Other than those areas, I do not know....I have heard that Levittowns schools arent that great.

Re: What area in Nassau would you recommend?
350,000 will be tough in NassauMerrick and Levittown are higher than that now
most capes in my neighborhood are like 379 and up and some need a lot of work, thats Levittown. I dont think you are going to find anything for 350, if you do you might have to put in 100,000 or so
the prices of houses are insane lately!
Every school district has problems lately, look at Mempham! and my friend carolyn is in massapequa and said a HS kid was lying on her lawn one morning drugged out. You have to research everything carefully and cant believe everything you hear. My mom lives in Seaford and was leary of levittown schools b/c of things she heard but me and my sister went to Levittown schools and turned out fine. Myself and so many from my High School are Attorneys, chiropractors, etc.. now.
