Are any of your friends/relatives who got married 10+ years ago saying that when they got married they did so and so. . .

Here is an example-I have a corset dress. My so called friend (MOH) who got married 14 years ago said 'that takes so long to tie, why don't they just make it a zipper'. When I got married, I had a zipper. I said that is the designer's trademark and it looks beautiful with a corset. There are also other things people are saying, like when I got married we did this and this. I feel like saying 'its a whole new world since then'. I wish some people would just quit
it w/their unsolicited advice. I feel like saying shut the 'F' up already. Has anyone else experienced this?

I get that a lot. What I do to shut them up is to tell them how much everything costs these days. Then it hits them how much things have changed.

Re: Are any of your friends/relatives who got married 10+ years ago saying that when they got married they did so and so. . .

Not really, but I tend do it to myself.
I was supposed to get married in 1989, but thankfully that never happened.

Back then :
a STD was something that you did not want.
dresses were huge with bows and frills and lace galore. Think Princess Diana
big poofy veils and crowns, no tiaras.
pastel colors were the rage.
tux shirts with ruffles, contrasting piping.

shuttle service to/from hotel ? No way, let guests drive themselves.
rarely was there an engagement party.
no SUV limos, no party buses.
Stretch limos was what you got.

Let these people speak their piece.
If you want to make a comment, say it's 2007 not 1987.

Susi

You will continue to experience this throughout your planning and even on the wedding day. I know I did. Its not worth explaining things to them....they will always have an opinion and believe that what they did for their wedding was the 'right' way. And to be honest.....one day down the road, when we're old and gray, we're probably going to be saying the SAME things when we see young girls getting married. Its very hard to keep up with and accept the subtle changes in the world...especially when you hardly see it happen. Try to just let it go and ignore them.

My parents are perpetually commenting about how it was when they got married…but more with a sense of awe at how it is now! I took my dad to look at photographers with me, and he was just blown away with how beautiful our photographer’s work was, and also how the album was made. He keeps saying he wishes he could do it all over again now!

Re: Are any of your friends/relatives who got married 10+ years ago saying that when they got married they did so and so. . .

Oh yes!

My older sister drove me a bit crazy with all of her questions.

*What do you mean we go for a tasting of the food from the reception hall?

***What do you mean you get to pick out your center pieces? Doesn't the Reception hall just give you three options A, B or C.

***What do you mean you can pick out different flavors for cakes? And different icings? Doesn't your hall take care of that.

***Aren't you paying enough at the reception hall, they should be take care of all of that.

Ahhhhhh I just stopped telling her things or asking for help. I just did it by myself.

I had to kind of ask her because I didn't have anyone else to bounce things off of....my Mother passed away a few years ago.

Re: Are any of your friends/relatives who got married 10+ years ago saying that when they got married they did so and so. . .

I have not said shut the 'F' up yet but it is coming close. I have a 'Friend'/co-worker who when I showed my menu to when I booked the hall asked me do not get the chicken with the cheese I do not like the chicken with the cheese. Months go by another friend of ours gets engaged and she shows the menu to her and she says do not get the chicken with the cheese please I hate chicken with cheese...So at the same time the 'friend'says Daniela did you pick your menu yet? I said no and if you do not like chicken with cheese then ask for it without the cheese! I wanted to say shut the F up it is not about you it is about what FH and I like and what a majority of our guests will like it is not about you! So you know I have to put chicken with the cheese on the menu! LOL I am tired of just nodding and saying I will keep it in mind!!!
