Centerpieces

Hello all!

SO in an attempt to cut the florist bill in at least half my FH and I are thinking of changing out centerpieces from a floral arrangement to vintage bird cages with scattered flowers and maybe a candle inside.

I'm not very crafty so I need ideas and perhaps pics?

What do you think about this idea? Positive and negative feedback please!

I've seen a bunch of things like lanterns, DIY flowers made of patterned paper or fabric, Tall vases with water and floating candles (with either flowers inside or marbles, bead, etc.), and vases with feather arrangements.

The birdcage idea is cool... do you have a theme to fit it into?

Thank you for responding!

The theme that appears to be forming is Dark Purple and flowers. I'm getting married at Flowerfields and the entire place is just relaxing and has a TON of plants...

Nature-esc? Am I making any sense at all? LOL

What about a potted plant? to go along with the nature theme? You could get terracotta pots and put purple flowered plants in them?

Not a bad idea...do you happen to know which type of flowers may be less expensive?

Heyy I'm surprised this post didn't catch more of a buzz with how ridiculously expensive flowers are. Try posting in the 2013/2014 Brides section or something. I'm trying to come up with an alternative centerpiece myself. Any luck designing one?

I've seen these contemporary style ones with an Antique book centrally, with a candle-lit lantern next to it. Also you can have mini side-pieces scattered around the table to accent the centerpiece. FM me, I had a pic somewhereeei can find if you want.

I had to just deal with this situation as well. I bought big hurricane vases at ac moore that were regularly $17 on a managers special for only $10. I am going to use 40 percent coupons to buy the 8 inch candles and beads or gems to put in the vases. Also a few votive candles around it which ac moore has the holders for 50 cents and candles are the same, plus if you have coupons. And put rose pedals scattered around it. When all is said and done for ten tables it should only cost about 250 as opposed to the over 750 the florist wanted!
