Generic BC pill

Have you ever taken generic BC pills? I just picked up my new prescription for Kariva because it's covered on my DH's insurance plan, unlike my normal pill (EstroStep). Has anyone had any problems on generic pills?

LOL. It better work, not planning on kids right now.

I was just wondering if the side effects were stronger being on generic, etc. Estrostep cost me $40 last month and Kariva was only $10!

Re: Generic BC pill

I have always taken the generic version. They have the same % of 'medication' as the brand name, thats all that counts.

Re: Generic BC pill

I take TriPrevaFem which is a generic of OrthoTriCyclen. I found that this is the best one for me.

With the other generic of this that I've taken I had horrible mood swings and was not a happy person in general.

Re: Generic BC pill

To be completey honest I hate the pill altogether. I am so used to it now, that if I were to go off it I would probably notice so many more ways it was affecting me and I didn't even notice it.

Depends on the brand's patent. Once the initial patent expires, all the generic companies can make it. Just like when I first started OTC, I could only get that since it was the only one made, now there are all the generics for it since the initial patent expired.

Me too!!!!!!!! I was on Ortho-Tri Cyceln and when I started this job and switched to this insurance, I got the generic. It was $7, so I sucked it up. I had HORRIBLE cramps, HORRIBLE periods and spotting. I had been on the pill for 5 years at that point and had never had any problems.

A few months later I just couldn't take it anymore, not to be gross, but I was changing my pad every 15 minutes and I just couldn't take it anymore. So I went back to my doctor and they switched me to Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo and said it wouldn't go generic. I had to pay $20, but it was SOOO worth it

I am encountering the same problem now, Lo DID go generic and my insurance doesn't cover it anymore, so I am paying $40 a pill pack now. But I am going to go on DH's insurance in 3 months anyway, and hopefully it will be covered by his plan.

Sorry for the long response, but I really had a horrible experience!
