Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
Yes... yes... I know... not the smartest thing in the world to do....BUT....
are you?
This, unfortunately, looks like how we're going to have to pay for a lot of our wedding. Because we bought our house this past November, a lot of the money we WERE planning on going towards the wedding is going instead towards the house. PLUS, my FH got a GREAT job that he's been waiting to get for a long time, but the initial pay is a LOT less than he was making at his other job. Our financial future looks great, but right now, we can't squeeze blood out of a turnip, so with a lot of the wedding expenses, credit card it is! I guess since we did the house first, that's why the credit cards come into play. So, whereas wedding gifts would usually go towards paying a down payment on a house, they'll now go towards paying off our credit cards. Anyone else doing it this way?
I feel so guilty relying on the charge cards for the wedding since I usually pay everything off as I spend it, but I don't see another way.. Anyone else doing this? Relieve my guilt!!

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
i feel like there wasn't much i could put on the credit card. our reception hall and photog/video deals were cash only and those were the biggest bills i think.i get miles for AA with my card so i was actually hoping to be able to charge EVERYTHING so our honeymoon could be free but it didn't work out that way unfortunately.
congrats on the house~!

You are not alone. We are doing it as well. Our Entire HM is paid for via credit card, but it will all get paid off after the wedding.. Thanks good people give money as gifts...

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
So far we've been able to pay off as we go but, we have a 0% card that we can do free balance transfers to with 0% interest so that way we can pay it off a little more leisurely.

Maybe you can look into getting home equity loan instead of credit card debt. From what I am aware you can right off interest on home equity loan on your taxes. Interest rates on credit can be killer..

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
No we did not. We are sticking to our budget. We already have the money for it and it's in a big interest account. Our budget is really small and so is our wedding since we also have a house to pay for.I am also doing a few side jobs once in a while to pay for extra clothes for the HM.

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
No we're paying cash for about 95% of it. The only things I'm putting on my car are smaller things like BM/GM gifts.

This is a good idea, you can get one that's interest only so you only have longer to pay the principle.
The interest is also deductible on your taxes so you'll get some extra money back there.

Same here. We're putting everything possible on the card, but we have an AMEX and have to pay it off every month anyway. Even places that only accept cash or check, we're going to take the cash out on the card.

Same here. I was really hoping that our hall would take CC payments too.

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
I got no problems doing that at all, especially since I'm earning a % back for making charges to my cards. :D You also get more time to pay the charges off....Do it as long as you know u can cover the charge when the CC bill comes.

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
I put certain things on my credit card, but I paid it off from the wedding account once I got the bill. Things like my dress, anything I bought online, I wanted to make sure I had some protection in case something went wrong.

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
we'll be dropping about $800 next week on our CC for wedding party gifts and our ketubah. As for our HM, the trip itself -- air, car, hotel, insurance, etc. - is already paid but we'll probably be charging a lot of excursions and meals.

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
Why don't you call the hall and ask them if you could make monthly payments. My friend did this with her hall and it worked out for her.

Re: Is anyone else putting a lot of wedding expenses on credit cards?
Any thing we can we put on the credit card, we use the AMEX-hilton rewards card, so we are hopeing to use the rewards for a night or two in CA, B4 our cruise to Hawaii. As far as the activities, our travel agent set it up so for my shower people can pay for an activity. Don't need China.Just remember that you can always pay of your debt later, you can't redo your wedding & memories last a lifetime. Don't worry about the money, it all usually works out.
