Looking for a summer job-fellow teachers? Please, help.

Hello, everyone. I am looking for some help. I am an English teacher. I was under the impression that I had a summer school position. Unfortunately, summer school starts earlier this year than it did last year, so it interferes with my honeymoon. I am already going on a delayed honeymoon because I planned it around my school schedule. I was willing to reschedule my honeymoon but was told that I did not have to. I found out today that there was a huge miscommunication and that the position was given to someone else. I am under a lot of stress because my old car just basically died and I purchased a new one yesterday and...now this. I would just really appreciate it if anyone can suggest any summer jobs such as summer school, subbing, tutoring, or anything at this point! I am exhausting all my resources. Thanks for reading if you made it this far. I truly appreciate any help I can get.

Try posting advertisements for a tutor at your local library and supermarket. Times are tough, so I don't know if families would be willing to pay for a tutor, but it's worth a shot. You can make a lot of cash on your own hours.

Try to see if you can be a sub, proctor, or grade papers. THe summer regents BOCES pays $4 per exam graded.

I know Nassau BOCES is always hiring T.As although I know that would be a pay cut. If you're certified in Spec. Ed. they may need teachers as well.

What about Huntington Learning center? Check out camps too-it will def be a pay cut from district but something is better than nothing!

My mom works at the Huntington Learning center (she's on dialysis so she has a schedule that no longer allows her to work in the classroom) and has been there for almost 8 years now! She really finds it quite rewarding.

I think they only start at around $10 / hr but I'm not sure if there's a differential based on your certifications.

Re: Looking for a summer job-fellow teachers? Please, help.

Thanks, everyone. Unfortunately, I tried HLC once and I did not like the way they did things. I am an English teacher. The one I went to had every tutor work with students on all different subjects. There were about a million huge binders with answer keys, and a confusing system of assessing. The woman I observed did not seem to understand the math she was supposed to be helping the student with and was asking me if I knew how to do it (in front of the student). I just really did not like the way it was set up. I wanted to be able to help kids, and I did not feel that I would be able to do that with their system. I appreciate all of the ideas, though. I have applied to some summer camps and summer school programs, but I have not heard anything yet.
